I suppose that's the thing - I've not seen the new terminal at SIN - but the existing terminals are not architectural feats of beauty. SIN has won so many awards because it is so efficient, particularly in transit.

A recent satelite image shamelessly copied from SSC.

This was raised in the context of the amount of surface parking. I agree the amount of parking is substantial, but most of it could be replaced by MSCP's reducing the footprint.

It also shows the amount of space free for T2 expansion to the north west. That area is genuinely huge and largely undeveloped. It will be much denser in 2/3 years time.

I created this thread to specifically follow the T2 redevelopment given the magnitude of the project.

The normal 'infrastructure and development' threads can then be used for everyday changes such as new shops in the other terminals, transport outside of the T2/HS2 projects and any other bits and bobs.

Construction of the new finger pier over the current staff west begins 26th June, the main T2 extension will be 3rd July.

I have lots of info including lots of pictures but currently confidential and embargoed so will post when I'm allowed.

Remote towers have been used in Sweden for the past 2 years without any problem.

Manchester's the third UK airport (after Jersey and London City) to propose implementing this, and NATS backs the idea as well, so it's probably not really a question of if but when.

A very interesting "mash up". Thanks for sharing. It does demonstrate how large the piers are when compared to the current structure (e.g. Of the west pier which is scheduled for demolition).

The image is supposed to show the route for construction traffic during the piers construction, hence the mash up.

Only shared as thought it was good to show the scale.

I believe that while it will eventually become a MSCP, the structure above the pier is the construction compound.

I would initially agree with your thoughts on the haul route and the construction compound however, if cranes are due to appear by the end of the year, I suspect that it is more likely to be a "work in progress" site.

Certainly exciting times ahead and I look forward to seeing (and maybe experiencing) the end product.

That is very interesting - the construction plans will be worth following given the complexities of working next to a "live" airfield.

It is hard to really get to grips with the scale of this site. It really is huge and the structures (e.g. New piers) are far larger than those they replace.

Cannot wait for spades in the ground - should get the launch next month!

Would assume the cranes would be on the left, between the pier and the 'haul road'. This would prevent perimeter infringements to the right of the pier, as last thing you want is cranes overhanging live taxiways etc.

I expect the cranes will have to "oversail" the apron to some degree in their arc of swing?

I would assume not as the perimeter has been pushed well back to accommodate the construction.
