User001. I need to send you a private message but I can't find the facility. Is it still possible on this site ?

Thankyou.

Dobbo, you mentioned the parallel taxiway to the hold of R1, but will there be one to the end of 05R and any new crossing points to facilitate a two way flow of traffic whatever runway/s are in use?

I don't think that is currently planned. It is certainly in the masterplan, and I assume the land is safeguarded, but I don't think they yet want to implement.

Oldendays,

There is a message function on the new site, look at the very top of the page, right hand corner and you will find 'inbox'. You can access your messages and write new ones through there.

Thanks user but all I can see is a lightning bolt, an envelope and the FFA logo.

Not to worry. What I'm asking isn't private. Do you know if it's possible to walk from the Clayton Hotel to The Romper pub near the hangars ? Also, are the public still allowed access to the car park roof at Terminal 1, bearing in mind what happened at Brussels earlier this year ? I have a couple of visits planned later this year and I don't fancy the viewing area.

Thankyou.

The envelope is the private message function.

To answer your questions

Yes, it's still possible to head up to the top level of the T1 car park to watch aircraft.

In terms of Clayton hotel to the hangars, you are looking at a 30-45 minute walk. Head across to T2, then go past there, head around the perimeter, through the freight area and then onto the romper. Google maps will assist, but like I say, itS quite a walk.

Some interesting stuff from this document, which indicates what may happen after the present TP (I.e. Extension of T2 and demolition of T1).

http://www.magworld.co.uk/magweb.ns...df/$File/Manchester+Airport+Land+Use+Plan.pdf

These are the options considered:
  • The full demolition and re-building of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, along with an expansion of Terminal 2.

  • The demolition and re-building of Terminal 1 along with an expansion of Terminal 2 and the development of a 4th terminal complex.

  • The re-development of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 along with an expansion of Terminal 2.

  • The re-development of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, an expansion of Terminal 2 and the development of a 4th terminal complex.
I suspect they are looking at one of the top 2 options. But what would they do with T3 and why would a T4 be needed?

With the discussion surrounding stand availability ongoing in the Norwegian thread, I thought it might be time for a bump of this thread and my post above.

Other options for extra stands/contact stands I think are likely to include constructing the 4th finger pier as part of the TP and possibly extending T3 to the North (parallel to runway 1). I don't know what impact that would have on car parking, but it is at least a viable option.

T3 will now HAVE to be expanded, there simply won't be enough room without it.

The runway capacity is fine, and outside of the peaks, there is space. The issue is, based aircraft which naturally use the peak periods, and it seems based aircraft is what is getting thrown at MAN at the moment. It's strange that airlines desperate to expand is both your blessing and your curse.

13:00-16:00 has plenty of capacity, the issue is, it's inconvenient for airlines. A European fligh for example would have to leave the base at the other end about 10:00, and realistically, no airlines like to have based aircraft sat around until 10am doing nothing.

Long haul is a little better, as the aircraft generally flies overnight, so, doesn't take up a stand. Norwegian for example could have the B787 return from LAX at 1400, and back out to JFK at 1700, as I believe is a similar pattern to their LGW flights.

It's going to be interesting.

In other news, there is a new meet and greet car park currently being constructed near the AVP. This will free up space next to T2 for the construction to begin.

I believe staff west will be gone by Feb 17, and thus the new apron extension can start construction.

An extended T3 (over the car park) would (or should) neatly allow the loco carriers to move into the terminal. The problem it creates is where to put the extra car parking (I know they are building more multi stories but is it enough?) and what happens when/if they want to expand T2 over the T1/3 site?

In terms of airlines, a new home would need to be found for BA, Air France, KLM and others (Flybe?). I'm sure they'd happily take new facilities in T2 but don't know if it will disrupt their ops.

In terms of the extended apron, I'd like to see the fourth finger (passively provided for but not currently planned - Nb planning permission not required) built to accommodate airlines displaced from T3 with contact stands.

I agree with the problems about based aircraft and peak runway capacity, I think one of the master plans details how movements can be increased so there are a few things that can be done. Certainly if Norwegian and others offer mid afternoon departures that will help spread the loads.

Why did they not start building car parks in Airport City North. Still nothing..

Been reported on another thread, the 80's remote stands will start to be re-configured from tomorrow. They will all be converted to MARS stands, meaning 2 narrow body aircraft can be parked on each stand, and obviously just 1 widebody if that's what's parked on it.

This will create 2 extra narrow body stands.

Very exciting. I don't know how to embed pictures but the fact sheet is interesting. Three A380 gates... Let's hope they are required moving forward...

Couple of pictures of (to my knowledge) a previously unseen model of the TP programme.

I don't know the date of the picture but it looks like the pier position has shifted again. It would be good to hear any other comments/onservations on the model. Perhaps F4A members have seen it in the flesh?

NB- Although these were posted on Twitter I have edited the pictures so that individuals cannot be identified.

Yes, although it also shows T1 remaining when the plan is to demolish.

I don't know which iteration this shows, or what phase of work so it is difficult to comment on detail.

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on what it means.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
