The EK 77W will go on stand 55C next door, it should definitely make a decent photo op.

The Dec CAA stats are out and Emirates saw 60753 pax, an increase of 34%.

Emirates are booming at BHX, long may it continue.

They look to be doing very well indeed.

I've heard it rumoured that EK37/38 may be going A380 next year. We shall see.

I blooming hope not. At least not without a plan for the cargo space that will be short. We would be looking for a freighter to come in to help make up the shortfall. Problem is they don't grow on trees and their fleet is committed. Leave us with 2 x 773 flights at least please. I know that this might not be the most popular opinion on here but I am looking at practicalities.

EK and its rapid expansion at BHX has come as a welcome surprise to a lot of people. But as this is an open airport forum what is likely to happen next? With an immensely impressive 60,000 pax in December alone, could we be in the early stages of talking about a fourth daily flight? Is the unthinkable becoming thinkable.......?

Personally I don't see a 4th daily at BHX until they get the B787/A350, I just think going straight in with another 77W is a step too far, even for Emirates. That said the new morning flight went straight in with a 777 and saw an increase in capacity after only 5 months.

EK37/38 is seeing some great loads which is probably why it's being rumoured for an upgrade. CL44 makes a very good point about the cargo though.

I can empathise. In the past five years I've made 8 long haul flights on Emirates A 380s and 12 on Emirates B 777-300s. As a passenger I prefer the 777 and it's nothing to do with Boeing v Airbus - I've no interest in that sort of thing.

well I believe 4th daily flight is a strong possibility at MAN but only after all 3 other daily rotations are upgraded to A388..... I suspect a similar process will be adopted at bhx....

...unless a competitor comes along and changes their mind, like Qatar?

There are reports on various social media outlets that stand 54C has now closed for the 3rd jet bridge works.

I can't say for certain whether this is the case, hopefully I'll pop by at the weekend to confirm.

I suppose Emirates will move to the next stand along, but someone else will have to make way for them, and American usually park right next to them so they could be displaced too. If space is short Emirates could end up on the 40's stands, where they sometimes parked in the first couple of years after the International Pier opened.

While in work tonight I thought I would have quick look at the gate 54 area.
I can confirm that work has started. It looks as though there is a pile of rubble in the middle of the concreted area.l believe the concreted area is being strengthened as well as the new air bridge being fitted.
From the outside you will notice that red and white bollards are blocking the stand completely so work can continue uninterrupted.

also, saw this article on twitter today... nothing earth shattering but proof that BHX is starting to offer a real positive contribution to the Emirates Network...

Whods have thought it on those routes....

Turkish also regularly has Cape Town as one of the most connected to destinations. It's a shame that BHX doesn't have an expanding long haul operator, it could potentially be a great route.

Good to see.

I've heard it suggested that underground fuel tanks we're being installed so that the A380 can be fueled via a hydrant, does anyone know if this is still the case?

I doubt they would put fuel tanks under the stand. There is already a hydrant system around the Euro, although it's redundant. It would only need an extension put in across to International pier.

I seem to recall this being installed many years ago, not just to the (previously named) Eurohub, but also to all the stands on what was then the International pier. Instead of a tanker arriving to refuel an aircraft, a 'pumping' vehicle would appear that would link a fixed fuel port to the aircraft.
Whether any of this survived the construction of the new pier, I have no idea, but surely most of the underground piping is still in place.

Hydrant system was only routed to the eurohub, apparently the airport charged Esso a fee per litre supplied during its use. Probably not worth the fee and time to refuel smaller aircraft. Their was past talk of extending it to 54 for emirates but that went quiet probably due to cost.

Great to see the cargo side of things doing well :good:

Exports by the region’s businesses grew by 3% to £29.2bn in the year ending June 2015, according to the latest figures released by HM Revenue & Customs, and SkyCargo has played a major part in making this happen.

Over the last 15 years the freight division of Emirates has expanded its Birmingham Airport operations significantly, with volumes up 15% year-on-year in 2014–15, accounting for 60% of the entire air cargo market in the Midlands.

By "Midlands" do they mean West Midlands? I know the 777 has been described as a cargo plane with passenger seats but I find it hard to believe we carry more cargo than EMA!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
