British Airways drops ‘regional weekend’ CityFlyer services to Europe
During the week, BA CityFlyer flies from London City airport to key business destinations in Europe. At weekends, however, it offers a range of leisure destinations to maximise the use of its aircraft.

As far as I can tell, all of these services appear to have been cancelled for Summer 2020 although passengers have not been notified. Here are the impacted routes which have been cut:

From Edinburgh: Florence, Palma

From Glasgow: Palma

From Manchester: Alicante, Florence, Ibiza, Malaga, Mykonos, Nice, Palma

From Stansted: Faro, Florence, Ibiza, Malaga, Mykonos, Palma

British Airways CityFlyer have removed its Edinburgh-Guernsey and Edinburgh-Jersey routes from sale
The flight times from Jersey were horrendous. Just another cut from BA who‘s commitment to the UK domestic and regions market is questioned once more. The once prized EDI-LHR route is still to see frequency recovery post pandemic. Frequency not increased to anywhere near 2019 levels despite the planes being rammed full. The one winner from BA decision to cull the Jersey route will be EasyJet. I also wonder if Aurigny may take a punt with the Guernsey route?

Were BA doing it as there own route though? Don't they often do these types of routes for a Scottish travel company? As for LHR are they using bigger aircraft instead of increased frequency? There is a lot of competition with London to Edinburgh.

The Jersey and Guernsey summer seasonal routes were both available to book on BA.Com like any other route. BA on the EDI-LHR up to mid 2019 before they were retired were using a 767-300 three times per day on the route. The night stopper was one of the 763 services. The other services were a mostly 321’s and 320 with an occasional 319. Looking back I’m fairly certain BA flew 13 daily to LHR from EDI as well as 8 daily to LCY. To use tomorrow as an example - 9 services. 5 x 320’s, 1 x 321 and 3 x 319. That’s a big reduction in frequency and seats.

BACF doing these routes was always temporary. They were done whilst the core routes from LCY were still recovering after covid. BACF just did these routes to use crew and equipment.

BA mainline is not interested in operating from the regions. They are under no obligation to do so, and it is hard to argue there strategy hasn't worked for them when they continue to be consistently profitable - contrast that with many of the other legacy carriers around Europe.

In terms of domestic BA mainline routes, BA are still operating at reduced frequencies as they continue to recruit and get back to full strength. Passenger demand is still not quite back to pre covid levels as well. But yes I am sure frequencies will increase as we go through 2023/2024.

You make some good points. It’s interesting to see that certain international routes are currently performing better or ahead of 2019 or pre pandemic levels. Qatar being a good example. Domestic travel is still trying to catch up. What won’t help in any way is the green minister Slater, part of Sturgeons coalition in Scotland who is desperate to ban domestic flights in the UK. Here lies the real danger to ongoing recovery. Sturgeon and her green pals are no friends of the aviation, airport and travel sectors. We saw this demonstrated perfectly during the pandemic when they refused to engage about a safe return to travel. Playing politics just to be different from England.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
