Although not local to Manchester, there is a vast amount of major buding work in Manchester at the minute.

I cannot summarise here, but below is a flavour of what is going on.

Manchester Central skypark. Built above the team line next to Beetham this is in the planning stage.

Owen street towers - currently under construction. The tallest is over 200m high and will be the tallest building in Manchester untill trinity islands are complete.

St John's. A redevelopment of the old Granada studios site. The tallest tower (helpfully called "the tower") is around the same night as Beetham.

This scheme includes the Factory arts venue and expands in Allied Londons Slinningfields (to the left of the lower picture). This is a major scheme due to start in September.

Trinity Islands. Adjacent to St John's this site is currently occupied by Network Rail who are building the Ordsall Chord.

The tallest tower is something like 216m - each will contain a large
Atrium type structure on the roof for restaurants and other public
Amenities.

There are a whole heap of other projects in the pipeline. St Michaels (the Gary Neville scheme) is well known and others like Circle Square in the pipeline.

I completely forgot Exchange court which is under construction and as 130m will be Manchesters second tallest building for a short period whilst Owen Street catches up. Also 1 Spinningfields an office block tower which looks quite fancy.

St Peters Square. Now pretty much completed although new office buildings are planned or being constructed behind the two new ones. Very smart with the renovated library.

I think the Central Skypark is about to go in for planning. It needs to wait for the axis tower (another one I've forgotten) to complete. Axis is the buding in the top images with the BA aircraft (as a mock up advert) on the side.

This image shows quite neatly the location of trinity islands (lower right) relative to St John's (lower left) and the Central Manchester (top middle).

I don't think the Trinity Islands image is current (see image further above) but you get the idea.

Media City Phase 2.

You can just about tell which buildings exist and which are renders in the pictures. The cartoon style diagram shows the new buildings in the blue/violet colour.

Continued media growth in the Manchester area will help the viability of LH services - particularly to places like LAX.

The city is reliant and developments continue apace. Here is another one at the old BBC site at Oxford road.

New development adjacent to the Owen Street towers currently under construction (new proposals are brown in the model below).

Planning to go in in the next couple of months, but anticipated as 32, 26, 18 floors high. Brick cladding. Adds to a new cluster next to Beetham, which can be seen in the left of the top photograph (which also shows Foundspace, Axis and 10-12 Whitworth).

Rumours from a usually good source on SSC that Manchester could be about to get an 80 storey tower in the city centre.

For reference, the shard has 95 floors. This would make it the second tallest habitable building in the UK.
