Covid lockdowns, then unnecessary restrictions on travel until last year with it continuing even into W21/W22, meaning that S22 was the first normal summer for years. Necessary to get money back into the company and stick to what you know and what makes money. Now that's done S23 can be about expanding and moving stuff. It's not really filled that gap - Cancun alone was served 10 weekly from TC from MAN.

The problem with that is the state of the economy and whether people have the money to spend on holidays. I expect that S23 will be more about consolidation than expansion but I expect that when it comes to BRS the base will have 5 737s at least.

All 787 crews are based out of LGW/MAN/BHX. Any 787 flying out of any other TUI base (BRS/NCL/GLA etc) is crewed from one of these three bases.

Cutting costs (of positioning aircraft/crews all the time) could mean most 787 flying is to be consolidated back into LGW/MAN/BHX next summer.
I also saw that virgin is decreasing its number of departures from London to Orlando next summer and will instead increase departures on the LHR-JFK route. Could also be a sign that Florida might not be selling so well.

The B787 flights from Bristol seem to have been an operational nightmare too. Way too many positioning flights, lengthy delays, stops in Shannon, basing crew permanently in hotels. I know these are not all Bristol problems but not surprising if the pull out of long haul is true.

Those operational problems have been there or there about for years tho and they also apply elsewhere too. I wonder how Newcastle , Edinburgh and Glasgow - also non 787 bases get to retain their services but not Bristol. Personally I can’t see Tui leaving the schedule like it stands now - there’s a big big drop in seats on some routes if there is - demand must be there otherwise the likes of jet2 and easyjet wouldn’t be adding capacity .

Hmm does seem like media speak doesn’t it. However on a good side after yesterdays announcement of Swiss operating twice weekly next summer there will be 4 new airlines plus extra aircraft from Ryanair and Jet2 more than replaces whatever Tui don’t do.

The difference between those two airlines and TUI is that Bristol is there only South West Britain base. TUI has 3 others in area and also TUI holidays has the option if it wants to of using airlines like Easyjet to offer holidays with.

Just for a bit of reference and further to the previous conversation about TUI, Jet2 and the South West Britain market i thought i'd look at what TUI offers for the whole of the South West Britain based on what is onsale now of course it's subject to change.
Bristol has 65 weekly departures and 5 based aircraft
Cardiff has 44 weekly departures and 3 based aircraft
Bournemouth has 19 weekly departures and 1 based aircraft
Exeter has 18 weekly departures and 1 based aircraft
In total TUI will operate 146 weekly departures and will have 10 based aircraft in the South West of Britain.

Further changes tonight and as I predicted further cuts to the planned summer 23 schedule - Tenerife and Heraklion both lose a weekly flight and time changes to others. There is also a few flights that are away longer than normal as they are scheduled to do a ‘w’ pattern to another uk airport whilst abroad

With these changes made last night the reductions are as follows - Palma x1 , Mahon x2 , Ibiza x1 , Tenerife x1 , Heraklion x1 , dalaman x2 , bodrum x 2, cancun x2 and Melbourne x2 and reductions in capacity on Palma x1 , dalaman x1 Antalya x2 larnaca x2 . Very big drops indeed

The dropped/reduced short haul routes don’t seem to be available as of yet! If it remains the case is that a loss of one based aircraft for S23?
