There is a sale on until 25 April and they are some good fares available. I was looking at Berlin in August and there were quite a few available for £60-70 return. I am sorely tempted.

When they first launched, CDG was 2 x daily; AMS 1 x daily;TXL 4 x weekly & DUS 3 x weekly although I am not sure that this ran thro' the winter. They seem to be struggling to make a go of business routes especially if TXL is to finish in June 18.

It might be an idea to open a base at LBA some time in the future, where they already serve DUS, NQY, BHD, and then start CDG with DSA being on a W leg, ie LBA-CDG-DSA-CDG-LBA, on a daily basis. Same might apply to a Berlin service and maybe a JER too! This would mean closure of the DSA base when the agreement, if there is one, runs out.
Certainly a LBA- CDG should be profitable with a E 175, even with Jet2 on the route which is mainly leisure oriented.

No need to close the base at DSA some routes struggled like everywhere but Flybe at DSA ain't doing any worse than any other airport they just need a schedule that works . Load figure through the summer were good . The last thing the airport needs is another carrier coming and going after a year or two Ryanair easyJet and Aer Lingus didn't hang around the airport needs the three carrier's it has expanding operations where possible .

Ignore the Leeds mob. If Flybe didn't want to stick around they'd be gone.
Sorry to pour scorn on this but I expect there to be a continued transfer of routes from DSA to LBA with Flybe. Yes I think you will keep Flybe but this will be only one based unit, or has been posted elsewhere aircraft operating in on W legs. Flybe and Jet2 seem to be communicating well where Jet2 are giving up a city route from LBA, Flybe pick it up. I can also see this happening to JER because once Jet2 get rid of their last 300s this could give a problem for the runway at JER plus they may be too high capacity for some other city routes. Don't doubt DSA has limited catchment areas for some frequency, but the proactive LBA management are going to not miss their opportunity with Flybe. The two airports are going to have to co exist but LBA will truly remain at number 1 in Yorkshire

What transfer of routes has there been? They haven't dropped routes in favour of LBA as far as I know. They started DUS because Jet2 dropped it and Newquay hasn't been moved over. It is quite possible for Flybe to operate out of both airports. They are different operations from each other. It doesn't need to be 1 or the other. At DSA there can be more of a focus on leisure and sun routes while at LBA there could be more of a focus on city and domestic routes.

The only thing is - a base with one E-175 over winter is expensive, even 2 in summer must be questionable especially if you need to supplement city routes with Alicante/Palma etc using a small E-175 which is pretty small for such routes. There is probably a greater demand at LBA for the likes of CDG/FRA/BRU/CPH and some routes might lend themselves to W Legs if there is a demand from DSA. Also there is the possibility, as has been mentioned, that Jet2 might pull out of BER & CDG (and JER) where the B737 800 is on the big side, and an agreement with Flybe may suit both sides. Who knows?

I don't know what Flybe do, but it is possible they use pool engineers at DSA, even if that's not the case it's not too far out of reach for Manchester or Birmingham engineers when they are required. Similar can be said for crewing, so it's not necessarily as expensive as you might think.

If Flybe weren't making money at DSA then surely they would have found some way to drop the base. The E175 would be more suited. In the end it's about costs and if Flybe are filling the aircraft and getting good yields on the likes of AGP and ALC and PMI but not on the likes of TXL then those are the routes they'll look at. Flybe operate the sun routes out of other smaller airports using E jets and seem to make money so why not DSA? It's not as if they have any competition.

I would expect they have signed up to a two or three year deal so wont be going anywhere soon.
If it means both airports benefit why not integrate the operation at some time ?

DSA was part of Project Blackbird that enabled Flybe to use their remaining surplus E195s in such a way that their £80 million obligation would be mitigated by £40 million.

Two would be based at DSA, 'flying to key cities and regional centres across Mainland Europe, under a long-term agreement with the Airport to provide much needed regional connectivity to the people of South Yorkshire and the surrounding area'.

Presumably there was some commitment by the DSA owners to incentivise Flybe if the airline was going to reduce its E195 obligation.

Whether it was to the extent of the reported £12 million that CWL was providing as marketing support for the Flybe routes at that airport over a three-year period seems unlikely.

In any case some of the E195s have already gone or are going from Project Blackbird airports such as DSA and CWL.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
