More winter routes now in the system although not yet bookable. I believe there are frequency increases to AGP and ALC?

Malta - 3x weekly

Bydgoszcz - 3x weekly

Gdansk - 2x weekly

Katowice - Doubles in frequency to 4x weekly from Nov (worried about Wizz?).

Faro - 2x weekly

Alicante - 6x weekly

Malaga - 5x weeekly

it seems Winter 2016/17 also brings with it at least 1 new route... BHX-Sofia 3x weekly... seems Wizz have prompted Ryanair into action... but good if this wasn't the only new route though, and maybe they can have a new route not currently served by an existing carrier.....

growth is growth though, and after years of stagnation, this is yet another season of growth from Ryanair at BHX

It also looks as if Palma and Murcia are to carry on into winter.

We thought that the arrival of Norwegian and Vueling sparked them in to life on the sun routes, now it appears that Wizz may have them rattled on Eastern Europe.

With Ryanair doubling Katowice I wonder if Wizz were/are looking at starting it? They do very well to there from Bristol.

Anybody want a bet on them announcing Bucharest?

Bookable for winter so far:

Dublin 6x daily

Verona 2x weekly

Vilnius 2x weekly

Malta 3x weekly

Bydgoszcz 3x weekly

Gdansk 2x weekly

Katowice 4x weekly

Krakow 2x weekly

Faro 2x weekly

Bratislava 3x weekly

Alicante 6x weekly

Barcelona daily

Fuerteventura 2x weekly

Gran Canaria 2x weekly

Lanzarote 3x weekly

Madrid 4x weekly

Malaga 5x weekly

Palma 2x weekly

Tenerife 4x weekly

Still to be added:

Murcia 2x weekly

Sofia 3x weekly

Another new route?

Sofia is now bookable at 3x weekly, Tue, Thur and Sat.

It will be quite a battle considering Wizz are upgrading the route to A321's from Feb.

Ryanair - Tue, Thur and Sat

SOF 17:15 BHX 18:40

BHX 19:05 SOF 00:20

Wizz Air - Mon and Fri

SOF 17:00 BHX 18:30

BHX 19:05 SOF 00:25

What's the chances of Ryanair also announcing Bucharest? With Monarch looking like they're doing well I wouldn't be surprised to see them add Lisbon for next summer.

I'd have much preferred Porto, Seville or Pisa.

Over to Wizz now, will they fight back with the likes of Gdansk, Katowice or Krakow?

Well I've been keeping track of RYR's recent Winter announcements and their growth across their UK routes/bases have been impressive. Question is, it would appear they are looking for growth out of BHX this winter, but then again, to what extent... hopefully there may be a few more routes on offer?

While featuring the Qatar flights on Midlands Today at lunchtime, reference was also made towards new flights being announced from BHX.
Whether this is just Sofia plus the extra capacity on other flights,or,whether RYR are about to suddenly fall back in love with BHX I am not sure.
Definitely one to watch in the coming days!!

Impressive growth.

The rumours were that there would be a couple of new routes. Sofia is totally new but there are also a few 'new for winter' routes so maybe that's it?

One to keep an eye on.

You have got to admit that is quite impressive growth for Ryanair at BHX, and its the winter season.

As others have mentioned though, it would be great to get another new route that is not already served by other airlines. I suppose only time will tell if this happens. We did get Corfu and Verona which is a bit more unusual for them so who knows ?

Strange they don't mention the increase to Katowice?

Anna.aero predicted Sofia would be a new base. The other base predicted was Prague, so there is always the chance they could go up against CSA. There aren't a lot of unserved routes left for them now. Lisbon, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Bucharest, Wroclaw, Poznan, Shannon, Knock, Berlin, even Limoges, have all been snapped up by other carriers. There's potential in Germany and Italy for them, but right now they're prioritising MAN in both those markets.

I think Germany is pretty well covered by Lufthansa, Eurowings and Flybe, I wouldn't say no to more Hamburg though. One or two more to Italy would also be welcome.

I have a feeling that some seats on the Corfu service are being sold for IT flights, I can't remember which company. If that works out well then we may see more Greek routes for next summer. Chania, Zante and Rhodes?

If I could choose I'd take Gothenburg, Lodz, Pisa, Porto, Treviso, Seville, Valencia and Zadar.

There's also Rome but I'd prefer Vueling or Norwegian.

I was thinking of Athens as a seasonal route, maybe a long shot but I think 2 weekly Aegean in peak summer only is a bit thin.

According to Kenny Jacobs Birmingham will be their fastest growing airport this year.

He said we'll be up 45% to 1.9 million passengers.

Interesting stuff from Kenny Jacobs in this interview:

He added that there could be more routes introduced to the facility in the coming years.

"I'd call out markets such as Italy, Germany and Greece. We don’t connect anywhere in Germany and Greece to Birmingham at the moment and Verona is our only route in Italy.

"There is plenty of headroom to add more routes to Birmingham subject to demand, our space at the airport and our fleet of aircraft."

nice to hear him stress such sentiments, but in good Ryanair style, the caveats are very clear.... "Subject to demand, space at the airport and our fleet"... which cynically of me you could say about any route

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
