Today at times between 4 am and 5 am I heard clear sounds of aircraft overhead. There were however no flights landing or taking off between 4 and 5 am. There were also no diversions.

This was on outskirts of Bath

What could it have been

Something that was Under Filtons Observation
I think that Aviador is keen on those. He might know.

Could also be military aircraft I suppose.

BHX thread reports that three inbound easyJet aircraft diverted there on Thursday evening from Newcastle, Madrid and Belfast International.

Weather at BRS said to be 300 metres, 100 feet and 20 knot winds. I know we have at least one member who will know the technicalities. Would the wind if it was a crosswind been the reason? 300 metres and 100 feet seem to be within Cat3b tolerance assuming 27 was the active runway. I don't know what crosswind tolerance is allowed with Cat 3b landings.

According to this report BRS seems optimistic that the forecast storm this weekend will not cause delays to travellers there at the airport.

For an airport on a hill, even with a runway more or less into the prevailing wind direction, thats very optimistic.

LNER have substantially reduced their Sunday service.

I see 2 flights already cancelled for today(sunday). 2 easyjet flights. 1 flight the EZY566 to NCL,and the Easyjet flight EZY 443 to BFS. Don't know if its to do with weather. I expect other flights to be cancelled or diverted due to weather, Looking at weather boards it don't look good all over the UK.

I expect it is due to the weather. The wind is bad. So bad it blew me 3 times into the middle lane of the M4 just between J15 and J16 and it's supposed to get worse. Needless to say I turned round and I'm now sheltering in our Swindon yard!

I did put poss cancelled flights. Looks like you on a night out then. The old severn bridge is closed. Man is in problems with wind and would think Liverpool will be as well. Just on radio they are filtering high sided over the new bridge.

Sky News has just shown some aircraft landing at BRS this morning. Once again it shows the immense skill and training of the pilots. Hats off to you ladies and gentlemen!!

Ryanair from Nice to Stansted diverted to BRS, just landed. Bristol seems to be doing better than London airports today. I wtached an Emirates A380 which tried two landings at Gatwick and is now headed south over France. Fascinating watching the travails of flight crew and ATC on FR24, and I wholeheartedly endorse TLY's praise of them above.

Aircraft are still landing at BRS but where I live about seven miles to the east of the airport and a mile to the north of its approach path the rain has become absolutely torrential. With no airbridges at BRS it must be a nightmare for passengers boarding and leaving aircraft in the wind and rain.

Sunday 9 February 2020

Given the forecast of wind strengths (plus heavy rain) associated with Storm Ciara today it looked as though BRS would escape remarkably lightly at one point with just four return cancellations shown this morning. It still to a large degree, given what might have been expected, but some cancellations have been put in later in the day presumably becausevof late-running/out of position earlier flights.

The BRS website departures/arrivals pages show 81 airline departures and 83 airline arrivals were due to operate today.

The following flights were cancelled:

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
