Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Sunday 19 December 2010

13 rotations cancelled today so far as I can tell, again because of weather problems at destinations although Alicante hasn't operated for the past two day (2 EZY each day).

easyJet Edinburgh (1 of 3 rotations today), Alicante (2 of 2 rotations today), Krakow, Glasgow and Barcelona

Flybe Jersey, Isle of Man and Belfast City

Air France (2 of 2 rotations today)

Aurigny Guernsey

Air South West Plymouth

There is now a forecast of heavy snow for tomorrow.

If it comes early there could be chaotic scenes at the terminal because 25 departures are scheduled between 0535 and 0910 - approaching a summer's morning schedule.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Monday 20 December 2010

Despite heavy snow in surrounding areas BRS managed to stay open for most of the day using twelve additional tractors contracted to help the snow sweepers, ploughs, brushes and blowers to keep the runway, taxiways and aprons clear.

It was a busy winter schedule today with over 70 arrivals and a similar number of departures so it looks as though some excellent work was done by the airport staff.

There were 10 cancellations all the result of problems at the destination end.

easyJet Prague, Barcelona (1 of 2 rotations today), Toulouse and Newcastle (1 of 3 rotations today)

Ryanair Dublin (1 of 3 rotations today)

Air Southwest Plymouth and Leeds-Bradford (the latter because the outbound flight was stuck at PLH)

Brussels Airlines Brussels (1 of 3 rotations today)

Air France Paris Cdg (2 of 2 rotations today)

In addition there were two diversions this morning when the airport was apparently briefly closed

Ryanair from Dublin to Birmingham
Brussels Airlines from Brussels to Birmingham

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Freezing Fog forecast for this evening at BRS. Snow is forecast for the Midlands so another bad night for diversions around the country is expected.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Tuesday 21 December 2010

Six rotations cancelled today, all due to problems with weather at destination:

Ryanair Wroclaw, Dublin (1 of 2 rotations today) and Knock

Air France Paris Cdg (1 of 3 rotations today)

Brussels Airlines Brussels (1 of 3 rotations today)

Eastern Aberdeen (1 of 3 rotations today)

I note also that an Aer Lingus A320 is parked on the western apron having arrived early afternoon with a routing shown as Alicante-Shannon. Etd now 0800 tomorrow. Snow diversion because weather in Ireland?

Running Total of Cancelled Rotations for December - 89 - plus 14 diversions to other airports*

Mainly weather plus Spanish atc mass sickie day.

*These are the ones I've counted - could be some I missed.

Ash Cloud cancelations for Tuesday, May 24th 2011 @ Bristol Airport

T3 4501 Aberdeen to Leeds/Bradford & Bristol
T3 4505 Aberdeen to Bristol
T3 4502 Bristol to Leeds/Bradford & Aberdeen
T3 4506 Bristol to Aberdeen

Monday 23 May 2011

Two cancellations today, both easyJet.

The last Edinburgh rotation of the day was cancelled, presumably because of the volcanic ash and the inbound Funchal this evening. The outbound departed this afternoon so it must be assumed there is a problem down the route.

Tuesday 6 September 2011

Three cancellations today so far as I can determine, owing to industrial action in Italy.

Ryanair - Bergamo

easyJet - Pisa and Rome

The Flybe Jersey rotation was also cancelled according to the airport web arrivals/departures pages - don't know the reason, can't imagine it routes via Italy.

The reasoning could be the strong winds, blowing across the British Isles today. The Met Office has said that gale-force winds are expected over the coming days due to the Hurricaine Irene winds, subsequently flowing along the Gulf Stream.

LBA and I think BHX and SOU are some-more of the airports that have featured FlyBe cancellations today - down to the wind is my guess.

That may have been the reason (south west winds were gusting to around 45-50 mph around Bristol today) though another Flybe Dash 8-400 came in from the Isle of Man during the lunchtime period (when the Flybe from JER was due) as did ATR 72s from Guernsey (Aurigny) and Cork (Aer Lingus Regional) around that time.

The morning and teatime Blue Island Jetstreams from/to Jersey also operated.

Wednesday 5 October 2011

easyJet Heraklion (Crete) rotation cancelled today, presumably because of Greek national strike.

The weekend's snow

With LHR, BHX and several other airports snow-closed at the weekend does anyone know if BRS had any diversions from other airports?

Although the city region had a light snow covering on Saturday afternoon the airport seemed to be operating normally.

There were reports of of numerous diversions from LHR to airports all around the UK and to Amsterdam and Paris and the RoI.

BHX also sent inbounds elsewhere, including Newcastle according to a report on another forum.

Accepting that 747s and 777s would be too big, or at least too heavy, for BRS, a number of diversions involved 757s and smaller Airbuses.

If there were no diversions into BRS was it because the airport had no available stands? I know there were times last summer when the airport was almost full at night.

If there was room it seems odd that aircraft that could use BRS would divert to NCL from BHX.

3 x FR from STN . Double parked behind the 6 other FR's . Just to tight to push hard for diverts . Next Winter we will have more room .

Many thanks, conns 757.

They could have opened Filton for a last hurrah.

Could have got one or two 380s in and used firemen's ladders to get the passengers off the aircraft.

.

The airport could take a 747 or 777 but would have to be empty with enough fuel to get to LHR/LGW but they would take up 3 stands so the chances of one popping in would be slim to none, but an A330 on the other hand has been in before.

The 3 Fr's were on stands 32L, 24R and 25R (tail to tal with the other A/C on 24/25) they could have put one on 23R and a small embraer sized A/C behind others on stand 2 and 3, I have seen the BMI parked behind a 757 on 26 in the past summers.

It was nice to see 9 FR's on the ground in the afternoon.

Thanks for that big g.

I had it in my mind that I'd read somewhere that the apron PCN was inadequate for a B777 and presumably a B747.

I've seen an A330 (Aer Lingus re rugby international) at BRS.

How about a DC 10? I have this vague recollection that in the 1990s, or possibly late 80s, one was used at BRS for a charter though, if it was, I can't recall whether it was a weekly charter or a one-off.

Snow this evening?

The weather forecast suggests the Bristol area will receive a substantial snowfall later this evening.

I notice there are 14 arrivals due from 2100 this evening so if there could be some disruption to incoming flights.

Fingers crossed the forecasters have over-egged it. I hate snow for its own sake - nasty, disruptive stuff with which we as a country don't seem able to cope.

We just mist it here in Leeds. York 30 miles away has had a heavy snowfall this afternoon into this evening but it's cleared toward the South West heading your way! Worcester is in the thick of it at the moment as is Oxford further to the East.

Still no snow and it's been damp and drizzly all evening though there are reports on the local tv news of snow at Chippenham in Wiltshire about 20 miles to the east of Bristol.

Airport might get away with it tonight - ten of the 14 due from 2100 have now landed - though the forecasters seem confident we shall get some snow overnight.

That 'promised' snow

Got away quite lightly in the end. Had a smattering of snow overnight and some is still lying around but it didn't seem to affect the airport according to its web departure and arrivals pages.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
