4 diverts on the 14th from CWL, 1 TOM 738, 1 KLM F70, 1 Cityjet ATR and a VLM F50 charter.

i see there was 2 diverts to cwl this morning of may 4th.
was this weather related or another problem .
the 2 diverts were the brussels sn 2055 and the easyjet ezy 444 from belfast.
everything else got in.
the 2 diverts returned to brs at about 11 am,with the pax as well.

Seems a bit of a puzzle given that nothing else seems to have diverted and the weather where I live (about seven miles from BRS in a direct line) has been quite pleasant this morning. I know that the North Somerset mountains can cause mist problems at BRS when half a mile away the visibility isn't too bad but there was no sign of mist in my area.

There's no Newquay forum so I thought I'd post it here. A6-EAD just landed at NQY as EK3001 from Dubai.

There is a Newquay forum. If you click on UK Airport Forums (the heading) on the Board Index and scroll down you will find many smaller UK airports with their own individual forums.

I've copied your post to the NQY forum.

It's wet and wild in the Bristol area this evening. Weather forecast suggests winds in excess of 50 mph this evening and through the night, and the prevailing direction seems to be SSW.

BRS has already had gusts of around 35 mph according to the BBC weather site. I'm not sure what cross-wind component would result from a 50 mph SSW wind blowing across the airports westerly runway 27.

So far nothing seems to have diverted but another 23 commercial flights are due in between now and 0130.

I was just wondering how long it would take for one of the airports thread for "Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations" to feature with the forecast high winds and rain. The money would have been on Leeds and Bristol, followed by Birmingham and in that order "if" I was a betting man which I'm not.

The airport's website arrivals page is showing EZY 6276 from Krakow that was due in at 1235 today now showing a delay until 0935 tomorrow (15 June). I wonder why.

The outbound (EZY 6275) seems to have left for KRK this morning. It was due out from BRS at 0700 but the website departures page never shows the actual time of departure, only 'departed'.

airport shut saturday night. still shut early sunday morning
reason given is suspect package found on plane.
many diverts away to cwl and bhx.
no idea when airport will reopen.

Airport has reopened at 6 am. But flights all over the place. I am assuming all pax from last night have been bussed back to Bristol from Cardiff.

Knock on delays aplenty. TLS already cancelled.

Last night the terminal was evacuated around midnight. More than 10 flights were due in around 11:30 to 3 am. All diverted to Cardiff.

Passengers and people in main terminal plus staff were evacuated to the old terminal building while the threat was assessed and removed. So anyone coming to pick pax were also moved to the OTB.

A package found on a plane inbound from Alicante has cleared Spanish security checks. Evacuating a whole terminal and closing the runway seems a tad over reaction.

Prohibited items getting through security are not unheard of and the terrorist of today make no bones about attacking indiscriminately. If something is suspicious it should be followed through and if anything, this kind of event is going to become evermore common place with the goings on in the Middle East escalating.

If anything I can see the aviation industry suffering badly in the years ahead particularly with Turkey on the doorstep of Isis. The traditional security risks have changed and the security services are forever playing catch-up. Sad times ahead me thinks.

On the face of things it might but......................

You can never assume with a security incident that it is an isolated event. Had the item (someone on another website is saying that it was merely a note) proved to be suspicious it would be essential to check the wider vicinity for other similar issues, and it's not often viable to wait until the 'suspicious' item has been thoroughly examined before doing so.

I'm not privy to the precise details last night but invariably the relevant expert military authority is called in to check a suspicious item. At least that's what happens in provincial police areas. The Met Police has its own team of experts, mainly former military officers with relevant expertise. Until that happens and it is cleared the item remains suspicious.

The other thing is that none of us know what general intelligence the security services have at a particular time which might have a bearing on the subsequent action of the police and other authorities.

Had this been a genuine terrorist threat and a secondary device had detonated nearby everyone would have condemned the police for not clearing the entire terminal.

The knock-one effects seem substantial. The BRS website is showing eight easyJet flights cancelled today between 1140 and 1610 hours:

Toulouse
Rome
Inverness
Glasgow
Berlin
Copenhagen
Edinburgh
Paris Cdg

That is a lot of hotel rooms EZY have to book. Lots of taxis in the Uk and abroad. And compensation payments.

Plus the disruption to passengers flying out and back today to/from such destinations as Rome, Copenhagen, Toulouse and Berlin. I would imagine there is little room on easyJet flights from other UK airports at this time of year and BRS is likely to be fully booked or almost fully booked on the flights to these destinations over the next few days.

Apart from the disruption and financial cost to airlines, hoaxes like this not only stretch security services but they undermine the entire fight against terrorism, as well as alarming many passengers. When culprits are caught they should be severely punished but they aren't always. I would treat such offenders as terrorists if I had any say.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
