Normally the call for volunteers would be at the gate, and if enough were not forthcoming then people are picked. Unusual that they would do it when onboard.

It isn't clear from the article whether the 19 were volunteers or were indeed forced off.

In one of the groups where this was posted, someone said they accepted volunteers working their way from the front of the plane and there were some towards the back who didn't get picked.
 
Stated elsewhere at Easyjet will have 7 based aircraft for the winter. Timetable increases to CDG , ACE , ALC, AGP , JER , IOM , TFS and BFS.
 
It has been a race to the bottom for handling agents. Airlines demanding lower fees will eventually lead to handling agents going out of business. The airlines can argue all they want about poor service delivery but they don't pay their way.
 
Having previously been ground crew at LBA, I can honestly say that the role is incredibly physically demanding and undoubtedly should attract better pay. Ground crew definitely have my respect having experienced it at first hand

I've dabbled in it too working for Jet2. It isn't easy and as you say it's incredibly physical. Definitely not for softies who don't like manual work.

I think he's referring to DHL handling Easyjet at Manchester.

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
