Apologies for not being very active on this group, I got my PPL in April 2017 and currently studying to become a commercial pilot.

Aside from that I am holding a "spotters day" at Bristol Airport in the admin building (old terminal), tickets went on sale a few weeks back and sold out within hours, since then 7 tickets have become available, if you are interested and want to come along please visit: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/bristol-airport-spotters-day-2018-tickets-45346391277#tickets

Event Details:

The Bristol Airport Spotters Day 2018 is this Sunday 10th June!

Location:

The spotters day is being held in the Bristol Room within the Administration Building (Old Terminal) which can be found on the left hand side when entering the airport via the main entrance, turn left at the first roundabout and you will see the admin building then on your right:

Time:

The event runs from 11.00am until 15.00pm.

Tickets:

All attendees MUST bring their printed ticket emailed to them by Eventbrite at the time of booking, this will help us to help you. Only attendees who have previously booked will be allowed entrance to the event.

Cost:

The cost of admission is £2 each which is payable on the door, all proceeds to Childrens Hospice South West.

Talk:

At 13.00pm there will be an informative talk from the Bristol Airport Police covering subjects such as the current threat picture, hostile reconnaissance and some background information about the police role at the airport and how to contact them.

Parking:

Free parking is being provided by Bristol Airport, when entering the airport, turn left into the enter marked in red on the map above and park. On entrance to the spotters day you will be given a car parking ticket to allow you to exit without charge.

Refreshments:

The Wings Cafe will be open for the duration of the event serving hot and cold drinks and light refreshments.

Observations:

The long range weather forecast looks like runway 09 will be in use, this means that aircraft will taxi past the windows of the room after landing. Good views of aircraft departing will also be possible. The windows are clean and will allow good photography.

We look forward to seeing you at the event. If you have any questions or concerns please let us know by emailing [email protected]. Further information can be found on our website at http://www.bristolairportspotting.co.uk/bas-events/bristol-airport-spotters-day-2018/

Every good wish with your commercial pilot endeavours, Simon.

Someone asked me the other day if the Aviation Fair will be held this year after missing 2017. The person said he had heard the airport was not keen as the number of visitors to the fair was interfering with airport operations. I'm not quite sure how as the old terminal is used although I suppose this might not be an option for too much longer with future developments.

Thank you for the good wishes.

Unfortunately the aviation fair was just too successful and so it became a victim of its own success, the last aviation fair saw just over 1000 visitors, local radio and local TV were present as well. A few complaints were made by air crew that they couldnt park in the staff car park due to the event which didnt help, also the airport fire service stated it was a H+S risk with so many people in the Bristol Room at once if there needed to be an evacuation, so the fair couldnt continue this year without being ticketed to time slots, which isnt viable.

A fair may return in the future in another shape or form!

That's a great shame. I went to the last one and found it hugely enjoyable and for a good cause.

I do find the H & S thing overdone in this country at times. Would it be more difficult to evacuate up to 1,000 people from the old terminal than the several thousand that congregate in the new terminal at many periods of the day, every day? Anyway, the decision has been made and we can do nothing but accept it - unfortunately.

I hope that those who went to today's event thoroughly enjoyed it. A write-up about the highlights would be gratefully appreciated for those of us who couldn't attend for whatever reason.

The forum announcement area and dedicated webpage can be used in the future for any future events associated with Bristol airport if anybody feels something needs sharing in the same way.

Another successful event happened last Sunday at Bristol Airport, thank you to everyone that came along to the event, there were many happy faces who enjoyed a day out which makes organising an event so worthwhile.

We would also like to thank the airport police who gave an informative and interesting talk about their work and the current terrorism threat to the UK. The event raised £106.00 for the airport charity of the year which is Childrens Hospice South West.

Below are some photos from the day for those who didnt attend:

This year's Spotters Day will be held this Sunday in the Bristol Room of the Old Terminal Building. It's limited to 30 persons and I'm assuming the very limited number of tickets have been sold out by now.

I only came across the details on the Bristol Airport Spotting website today and have posted the link above.

I have been looking to see when and where and date,as I was going to go to the event. I have seen nothing any where about the event, and its too close to the event that their will be no chance of getting one.Next year they should book Felton village hall,as its only about 300 yards from the airport.

I just happened to be glancing at the Bristol Airport Spotting website today, mainly to see if there was any news of Mayfly, and the item about the Spotters' Day caught my eye. I probably would not have gone had I been able to get a ticket as I'm not really a spotter but I wish I'd found it earlier to give those who do have an interest a chance to go.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
