The World Cup usually has a negative impact on holiday travel abroad in the first part of the summer, but this year England's perhaps unexpected progress coupled with the long spell of hot weather in the UK has apparently exacerbated the situation with the Balearics particularly hit according to the linked newspaper report.
Tour operators and hoteliers are slashing prices to try to tempt people to travel.
The ubiquitous Simon Calder was discussing the situation on the BBC Tv News Channel this morning and quoted a number of very low prices both for holidays and for flight-only deals from a number of UK airports. He thinks that the travel industry is hoping for an England exit after today's match against Sweden.
