I am enjoying a few days down here on the Algarve coast but also, with one eye. on what is happening on F4A.
I am relatively old now but one thing that always irks me is when people quote statistics without any reference to actual data.
So, for starters, when people talk about cranes, what are they talking about? Stepladders....small cranes... big cranes.... giant cranes and in what geographical area? let's get some perspective in this, if we are going to talk about cranes then we should be stipulating a minimum height at the very least. I will leave that to others to decide..
Secondly when people talk about economic statistics, can they please give the source from which they have gleaned this information and the specific dates on which this information was released. There has to be some credibility to this information, so without it,it is meaningless.
Thirdly, the size of an airport, the number of passengers any airport handles is bringing the discussion down to the level of football alllegience. Because one city has one or two fabulously successful clubs, does that really mean that city is better than any other? Sadly, it often means that city has a higher propensity to violence and murder.
Let's get some perspective into our discussions.

In my experience, many of the most notorious fanbases are linked to clubs which are complete strangers to success. Often residing in lower leagues. Out of the established premiership 'Big 6', only Liverpool fans have a reputation for mob violence (bricking rival team coaches, general feral behaviour). Any club can be linked to individual idiots, but the larger London clubs (note - larger!) and the Manchester clubs rarely hit the headlines for violent conduct by organised groups of fans.

I don't follow football, I do know LFC had some bad behaviour issues not too long ago, however I don't believe it is a common occurrence, I don't recall reading anything in the local media or national for sometime.

This incident occurred on 4th April 2018 - less than one year ago. Hundreds of feral thugs can be seen taking part in the organised violence that day. I can't recall any other incident approaching this magnitude perpetrated by "fans" of the other top premiership sides over the last five years. Historically, yes, but not recently. Only Liverpool FC fans (in the EPL) have recent form for misbehaviour of this sort.

Yes I mentioned that....my point is it's not a common occourance, bad as it was, so I feel singling out LFC a tad unfair. It also has nothing to do with BHX prospective routes.

My posting on this issue picked up on a suggestion by another contributor claiming that cities with two fabulously successful football clubs (I suspect his intention was to infer Manchester based on discussion at that point) have a higher propensity towards violence and murder. My reply is submitted on the thread where this unsubstantiated claim was made.

In refuting Richard's claim, I pointed out that only one premier league club has seen organised fan violence of scale within a recent time frame. That one club is Liverpool FC, as the YouTube coverage amply shows. They aren't singled out - they're actually the only recent offenders in this respect (unless contributors can recall other EPL clubs involved in similar occurrences). Football violence has generally declined in an EPL context. Liverpool FC is the single outstanding exception to that. It is entirely fair to exclude them specifically from accolades for improved crowd behaviour. Footage from 4.4.18 speaks for itself. LFC still has a problem.

I agree that this discussion is peripheral to BHX route development. But I must respond to Richard's claim where he posted it - ie. on this thread (post 5915).
