CAA Grounds Boeing 737-MAX amid safety concerns

A spokesperson for the UK Civil Aviation Authority said: "Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by the tragic incident in Ethiopia on Sunday.

"The UK Civil Aviation Authority has been closely monitoring the situation, however, as we do not currently have sufficient information from the flight data recorder we have, as a precautionary measure, issued instructions to stop any commercial passenger flights from any operator arriving, departing or overflying UK airspace.

"The UK Civil Aviation Authority's safety directive will be in place until further notice.

"We remain in close contact with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and industry regulators globally."

 

The Ethiopian authorities have now stated that there are indeed similarities with the Lion Air crash with more details to be revealed in a few days time with the preliminary report to be published within 30 days.

On reading that Boeing submitted to the FAA that the MCAS system would do an input of 0.6 degrees downward with it being signed off with that, they altered it to actually produce 2.5 degrees downward and didn't bother to tell anyone. Sad to say that I do believe it's time for the FAA to withdraw the type certificate and instruct Boeing that every single facet of the 737 MAX series will have to tested and pass the 2019 standards for aircraft certification rather than grandfathered in save for what they claim are the differences. After all, they seem to be using the 1967 737 type certificate that appears to have practically diddly squat in common with the the MAX apart from it being made by Boeing, has the nomenclature 737, has a nose, a tail and 2 wings with engines underneath those wings.

By and large the travelling public could`nt tell the difference between an Airbus and a Comet, but on this occasion they`ve all heard of the `Mad Max`..If Boeing and the slothful FAA think they can just put in a fix and tell the world its now `Good to Go` they are deluded. These are the ones who had to be dragged by Trump into acknowledging there was a problem with their `Toy` in the first place..The truth is I don`t think the reputation of this type of air plane will ever recover or be trusted in the same way the NG`s are...Time to scrap it and start from a clean sheet of paper despite the protests from their American customers.

I can remember the DC10's notoriety in the 1970s and people at large seemed to be aware of that.

Whether refining the aircraft and calling it MD11 made any difference to the public psyche I don't know.

 

Yes I think that was the reason for the name change MD11...But now we have many more people travelling around the world and accompanied by social media..that was the catalyst to get the Max grounded. We shall have to see how it all goes from here on..
