Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Air Southwest bused there passengers to Leeds this afternoon after cancelling the service to BRS from there.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

BA flights between NCL and LHR were all cancelled today, tomorrow and Monday bar one each day!

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

It seems that it is BA's policy to cancel some domestic and short haul flghts when weather (or anything else I suppose) seriously affects the running of the airline, as the adverse weather of recent times has.

Apparently they do this in order to put all their efforts into the long haul routes, the rationale being that there are usually alternative carriers on domestic and short haul routes.

There has been a discussion about this on the Fruit message board with opinions mixed. Some people have pointed out that if they are flying from, say, Newcastle to, say, Australia with BA and can't get the flight to LHR from NCL, how does it help their type of long haul passenger?

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

I would say it is far from helpful for the passengers, particularly those connecting with other long haul flights at LHR. The train services are also not running to normal schedule, so just cancelling flights like this pays scant regard to peoples plans and does little to enhance peoples already sceptical view of BA as a decent airline. It is not as thought there is another airline operating to LHR from NCL anyway, leaving only the trains as an option.

I have noticed the cancellations myself as I consider whether to book with BA or BMi from MAN to connect with flights to Montreal later this year. The cancellations, coupled with the ongoing threat of industrial action and higher prices is leading me very much towards the BMi/Air Canada option, even though it means a terminal transfer at LHR. If I am thinking that way, I am sure many more are too. BA seem to operate on the basis that they exist, therefore passengers will fly with them, but they, and airlines like Easyjet, may regret the way they have treated their passengers during the bad weather in the future

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

It would appear that a number of aircraft have diverted into NCL this afternoon because of the volcanic ash cloud affecting much of the rest of the Northern England.

So far these include Leeds bound flights from:

LS258 from Palma
LS186 from Malaga
LS272 from Alicante

Other flights have diverted to neighboring MME

It seems the airlines are still using DTV as a diversion airport despite the recent passenger charges.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Is the snow the reason for the closure of NCL this evening?

There are reports that an aircraft (reportedly a TOM but not confirmed) has either overshot the runway or has in some way blocked it.

Reports suggest there are no injuries.

Hi

Yep I see I made a big mistake saying Newcastle was snow closed. In fact Thomsonfly, Boeing 737-800, G-FDZR inbound from Arrecife has over-shot the runway this evening.

Passenger jet overshoots runway at Newcastle International Airport

An aircraft with 188 passengers onboard over-shot the runway at Newcastle International Airport this evening.

Northumbria Police said they were informed that the Boeing 737-800 "travelled a short distance past its runway stop position" before coming to a controlled halt.

The incident involving the jet which was returning from Arrecife in the Canary Islands happened shortly before 9pm.

Tyne and Wear Fire Service said the aircraft ''had gone very slightly off the runway'' but remained on the asphalt.

No-one was in injured in the incident and all the passengers were disembarked, group manager Keith Carruthers said.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Looks like ATC problems are going to effect operations tonight.

The BBC has just issued the following travel advice on its website @ http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/air/

Newcastle International Airport: Delays possible to flights to and from Newcastle Airport due to technical problem with Air Traffic Control systems. Passengers advised to check in as normal.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
