Went to Vue Cinema yesterday evening to watch Rocket Man the film about Elton John.

Mrs Aviador talked me into going to watch the film as I'd previously said I wasn't bothered about going to seeing it. There were a couple of scenes of a se*ual nature which I thought weren't necessary but on the whole I was impressed by the film and I would definately recommend it.

We went to see the Queen film in February and really enjoyed it love the music it was funny and moving at the same time. They did some of the best music ever in my opinion, told our kids that we went to the pictures to see a film they fell about laughing and said why didn't you go to the cinema to see a movie instead lucky I didn't say we went to the local flea pit not that they wouldnt know what that means
Elton Johns music is o.k. to me but not especially a fan, glad you enjoyed it.

Queen vs Elton John, different and difficult to judge who is the better of the two. I watched the Queen film back in February too but I think the Elton John film was by for the better.

The last time I went to the cinema was to watch 'Gandhi' when it first came out in the early 1980s. In the 1960s and 1970s we were regulars at local cinemas but we gradually lost interest in going. Mrs Yokel has occasionally gone to a cinema to watch a film (movie! - yet another Americanism that this country seems to fall over in order to use) with women friends since the early 80s.

I'm told that Gaumont-British newsreels are no longer part of the entertainment at cinemas. What about 'Look At Life'? Do Pearl and Dean advertisements still feature? How about the ice cream sales girl (sorry person) with the tray?

Do they still have rolling programmes where you might go in half way through the 'big film', sit through the second feature, the newsreel, trailers and advertisements before watching the beginning of the 'big film' and leave at the point that you came in with usherettes (probably called ushering people these days if they exist at all) continually shining their torch along rows as more people entered the cinema whilst the programme was showing?

Or aren't you allowed to go in midway through the programme these days?

You need to get out more @TheLocalYokel I expect you would be overwhelmed by the experience nowadays with all the Dolby Surround Sounds and special effects. If you mean the pre-film entertainment, you don't get short films anymore, or at least not at my local cinema but you get a number of up-coming film trailers. Some cinemas still have the ice-cream and torch experience before the main film begins but they don't cut off halfway through anymore, or at least none by us do.

Watch widescreen with the volume turned up.

I often go to an art house cinema in Liverpool city centre called FACT, which is great because they have lesser known films on and those of limited release. Its also just a nicer experience where you can have a meal or snack or a coffee, plus there is a bar too. Otherwise there is a Cineworld nearer to home.

I think I enjoyed the Queen film more, although liked both, and listen to Elton John more. Just seen Amazing Grace old film footage of Aretha Franklin.

Ah, thanks for the information re the current set-up at film shows. I don't think I would be tempted back inside a cinema.

You mentioned the sex scenes in the film you watched. In the old days (that's my old days) we might see the couple get to the bedroom and then there would be a fade-out with romantic music overlayed before the next scene would see the pair at the breakfast table. I don't want to see a couple of actors pretending to 'have it off' anymore than I would want to see one of them sitting on the lav in a film. We can take that as read.

There was something to be said for the pre-war Hays Code. Only partly joking 😉

I've been advised to see the Rocket Man film. Not sure if it's to my taste or not! Recently my co-peer at College/Uni encouraged me to go to the cinema again, recent films I've seen are:

• Detective Pikachu
• Aladdin
• Godzilla King of the Monsters
• X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Movies I will be seeing at some point include:

• MiB: International
• Toy Story 4
• Spiderman: Far From Home
• The Lion King
• Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I'm not sure to be honest. I think it was a nice send off but is absolutely covered in plot-holes e.g. the aging of characters, especially if you try and factor in the original trilogy. Though, I understand the original trilogy timeline was basically erased in Days of Future Past...

If the weather picks up I'll be in the garden this weekend, if it doesn't we're off to see Aladdin.

Looking forward to Toy Story 4 which I think is released at the end of this month 🙂
