LCY seems to be hugely successful despite runway constraints??? I'm not objecting to SOUs proposal btw
In general Southampton is with most of the market focusing on domestic connections and regional France and some Spanish routes but it is limited in the aircraft in can take and the range of those aircraft. The extension should help with that and hopefully increase Easyjet flights from it.

The local planning committee's determination of the airport's planning application to extend its runway began this morning and is still going on. There have been some breaks in the day but the council has now provisionally allotted extra time for the matter to be concluded tomorrow if necessary.

Hadn't quite realised the scale of BA Cityflyers weekend operations at SOU. There are currently 8x overnighting E190s in SOU, along with an Eastern AT76 & E190 making 10x aircraft total. Theres only 11/12 commercial stands in SOU, so it must be quite an impressive sight.

I have a fried who uses SOU, he said the aircrafts come from LCY and they are offeting quite a range of destinations now from SOU.

Good news for Southampton. With BOH getting a new Jet2 base next year, they need to increase their number of flights.

In the article it states that a new coffee shop is planned for the departure lounge.

I wonder where the location will be for this new coffee shop.

Or is it just a rebrand of the existing Costa coffee outlet on the first floor 🤔

Having just joined this site I was hoping that the Southampton thread was more active than it is.

Hopefully we can discuss the article and what it actually means for Southampton Airport.

The departure lounge definitely needs enlarging as it's almost to full capacity with three A320s. Having a new cafe location will only take up valuable seating in the departure lounge.

The airport needs to enlarge the departure lounge footprint with dedicated gate areas capable of simultaneously handling upto 3 or 4 A320s.

Welcome @Sotonsean
Hopefully more will join the Southampton thread and discuss the airports exciting future. Feel free also to check out the other airport/airline forums on here, always lots of interesting discussions.
Regarding SOU, hopefully they’ll make space for a new coffee shop rather than just rebrand the Costa. With the potential of more based aircraft in the future and more flights using A320s, more terminal space will surely be needed? 1x A320 departure is the same as 2x DH8Ds in the past), so like you said, a few A320s departing simultaneously and the terminal might be near capacity?

AGS are spending a huge sum of money on SOU over the next few months to improve amongst other things the departure lounge. This will be extended, possibly over stand 6, although other options are still on the table. One would imagine that the new Starbucks will operate from the extended departures and will be separate from Costa on First floor. Lots of talk of new routes and airlines with easyjet and TUI keen to expand their footprint, some news could be announced soon for this winter season.

But there's always lots of talk of new routes and airlines at SOU none of which come to fruition.

I can't see any significant expansion from TUI especially until they see the results of their operations using a Boeing B737-800 to Palma.

Easyjet have been extremely lacklustre with SOU. The fact that they didn't add AGP from SOU for summer 2025 is very disheartening.

There's been no actual figures attached to SOU regarding any expansion of it's current facilities. The new owners are going to invest heavily in GLA but I can't see them spending huge sums of money at SOU.

A small extension to the departure lounge more than likely over part of stand 6 is apparently planned with a new cafe outlet attached. This will be a major improvement on the current departure lounges configuration.

But please don't let the new cafe outlet be a Starbucks. I'd personally much prefer to see a Neros coffee shop outlet at SOU over a Starbucks.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
