Seen a post elsewhere stating that Loganair have been advertising their Cardiff to Edinburgh route on ITV Wales.

Yes we do with one that can provide frequency at affordable prices. Yes UK domestic traffic, especially for business, is not what it used to be but with road and rail very congested, definitely a place for such an airline

I'm sure many will argue I'm wrong but I think the UK desperately needs a new domestic airline on the scale of the original Flybe with a price structure which is affordable.

Problem is that lower prices would potentially mean less profit and a less viable airline. Is it no coincidence that Loganair survived but Flybe didn't.

But like the locos, and with a price that's right with a full or nearly full aircraft it will make a return. I bet you don't see many full Loganair aircraft for example vs a mostly full Ryanair or easyjet.

But completely different operating models, you can't compare the two. A low cost domestic carrier operating 737's or A320's would unlikely work.
A regional carrier relies on high frequency from smaller airports as well as popular trunk routes, but has higher per seat costs as a result.

Had Flybe been run better things might have been very different. They threw a lot of money away of various things as a result of unsustainable growth and not knowing what they wanted to be. During their growth phase Ryanair and Easyjet weren't as big as they are now. Also not forgetting Stobart didn't survive either. The boat to compete has probably sailed.

A new startup Airline would need very deep pockets. I'd like to see a regional carrier using A220's, a fuel efficient aircraft with a decent seating capacity for domestic travel, but would come with high lease costs.

Loganair has been very cautious in their growth approach. They cherry picked many ex Flybe routes that they knew worked. But the threat from Easyjet continues to grow.
Loganair are gradually replacing their fleet and bringing in ATR's. That would be the other type I would imagine would work for a UK regional carrier. It will be interesting to see where Loganair go with the fleet replacement, if the majority of their fleet will eventually be ATR with the ERJ's going. A bigger, more fuel efficient prop would bring prices down, but also they own most of the ERJ's so don't have the leasing costs.

Looks like Summer 2025 will be reduced to 5 weekly in April and May and then 4 weekly in June, July and August.
This may be a bit pessimistic but I generally think that Edinburgh will never recover anywhere near even half its pre pandemic numbers. Loganair just don't seem to be interested in growing the route. Is it too much to ask for Cardiff to Edinburgh to be at least a daily flight with an ATR72? I'm also personally starting to question CWLs management in general as well.

It does seem mad that they scale back in peak summer. Without a daily service it just makes it unattractive for most people.

They seem to be treating it like a leisure route rather than a connectivity route and if that is the future for the Edinburgh route then the airport may as well look at trying to attract an airline that's more attractive to leisure passengers and can bring in a bigger volume of passengers on the route.

Cardiff mentioned in this article. Potential for growth.

Fingers crossed! Just a daily ATR72 would be good!

"We believe Cardiff offers great opportunities. We fly Edinburgh to Cardiff, which is very popular and there is potential expansion there"

Given the numbers on CWL - EDI I’m surprised he’s noted it as popular. They must have some terribly performing routes!

I’ll take any positive news though! bring back the daily EDI all year round and maybe Glasgow a few times a week.

Maybe it's popular by Loganair standards? Because compared to pre pandemic the route is a shadow of its former self.

I reckon the relative 'poor performance' since Covid is due to Loganair not operating daily as a minimum and flying at unfriendly times. The pre-Covid demand is probably still there, but using BRS. A good opportunity to pull back some traffic from our neighbours!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
