They are a subsidiary of Ryanair and Ryanair do seem to like to do that!

 

How ironic I mentioned Lauda on the thread with airlines that ceased to operate into BRS or merged with other airlines. I must be able to look into future with out realiseing it. Perhaps I should do the lottery Saturday.
That's good news seeing them back in BRS again.
Any idea what aircraft will be used,and looking at times in the first post I can only think its flying in empty to do the rotations.

No it's not. It's operated by a Vienna based aircraft. Looks like it's an A320 that will be operating it.

 

Good luck to them it is a brave move.

 

Whilst a new airline is very welcome and a nice surprise it puzzles me why the airport thinks it’s a good idea to have two airlines operating on a route that is hardly setting the world on fire. I just don’t get it whilst the likes of Rome Madrid and Barcelona have eye watering fares and no competition whatsoever. I personally would have rather had Lauda launch day a twice weekly Salzburg service instead

I'd be surprised if the airport chased Lauda for this route but I doubt that they would turn down the PR of a new airline either. In the end as much as the airport would like new routes to new destinations or increased frequencies on other's its the airlines that decide where they want to go. To be honest as well before this was announced I didn't realise Bristol had flights to Vienna!

Ryanair used to fly from BRS to Bratislava which is handy for Vienna. They finally gave up in 2013 even though the loads were very decent.

easyJet began a year-round Vienna service from BRS in 2015 at 2 x weekly although from the beginning of November it's shown as 3 x weekly until the end of June (apart from January and the first part of February that revert to 2 x weekly).

Red Flyer said, "Expect new airline announcement later today with further updates to follow" which suggests there might be more to come from LaudaMotion. Perhaps Ryanair will build its BRS offering a bit through LaudaMotion.

A new airline is always welcome. As has been said, an unserved route or those that seem heavily used and in need of extra frequency would perhaps have been better from the perspective of us airline/airport followers. However, Ryanair has gone head to head with easyJet on a number of what might have appeared speculative routes with apparent success, as most have seen good passnger figures and have stuck.

I think they only have 3 other bases, Palma de Mallorca, Stuttgart and Dusseldorf.

TCX operated PMI at 3 x weekly so there might be a bit of scope there for summer. However, Ryanair currently operates the BRS-PMI route in summer so there could be just some switching around.

Incidentally Jerry, was Laudamotion the airline you had in mind? I thought it might be Jet2 but I couldn't see how for the reasons I've espoused elsewhere in this forum.

I thought it would be Jet2 especially with the news that they were going to keep 3 757s! Looks like i was slightly wrong!

Unfortunately for BRS, Thomas Cook's departure lost even more passengers at airports such as MAN and BHX where Jet2 already has bases so it's very likely that their emphasis will be there in terms of plugging gaps. There is also a Jet2 STN base, albeit TCX handled fewer passengers at STN than at BRS.

On the face of things Lauda's current limited range of bases makes much expansion from them at BRS appear doubtful at the moment. They are gaining more aircraft each year and Ryanair's stated intention is to build up the airline quickly. I don't know whether Lauda will go in for 'W' routings which would obviously open up the possibility of more routes at BRS if the airline was so minded.

Nevertheless, if Red Flyer's comments about further updates in the BRS Route Development thread relate solely to Lauda it does seem that there might be more to come from that airline.

 

Just had a quick look at April 2020, the Wednesday rotations are listed as operated by Lauda, the Sunday rotations are listed as operated by Ryanair, having said that timings on both days suggest flights are operated by VIE based aircraft.
