Is this what was being discussed last night on the rumours thread or is there something else too to be announced next week?

This is what was being discussed....... although....... there may be an outside chance of a little something more coming next week. No guarantees though. We shall see.

Great week for BHX (y)

Didn't Turkish themselves launch Antalya just before the pandemic (summer 2019 I think it was?). Certainly wasn't a daily frequency, so this is definitely an improvement on that!

But then we come crashing down with a bang as no overseas holidays this year it appears, on the news today.

Europe is starting a 3rd wave of Covid, and I am losing the will to live :cry::cry:

I'm trying to remain positive as the recent increases are in Central Europe. Portugal, Spain and Croatia for example all have rates of infection to manageable levels and their borders are very strict to keep variants out and the proof is there that variants are not present there or the cases would be sky high. I think a travel corridor approach like last year is going to be the way forward for this summer with maybe a test on arrival back to UK. The country simply cannot afford to keep things shuttered much longer. Articles like today are just misleading and scaremongering. I like others in the forum have booked a getaway this summer and I still am of the view that it will go ahead as I remember the few months of travel we had last year and that was without a vaccine.

Let's hope so Wrightfly but equally the politicians have been saying having those few months last year as you say were a huge mistake ?? And one of the reasons for the 2nd wave in the Autumn/Winter ??

We will have to see BrumX I just don't agree with the fact that the news are making bold claims which don't reflect the true story in all of Europe.

I just feel that we are in a better place 1 year on, with vaccines, tests and more knowledge so can balance the risk with the need to get the tourism industry and wider economy restarted. Spain and Portugal are having their lowest amount of cases since last summer.

It's true that fingers have been pointed to travel but transmission levels remained low for months last summer and mutations would continue to occur whether the borders are open or not. I agree we must be cautious but data shows that transmission by air travel is low and no uptick was seen last summer when holidays restarted, I think travel was just a quick thing for the sofa scientists to blame the increasing infection rate on.

I just hope that soon some normality can occur and that everybody on this forum can get their much needed breaks in a "covid safe" manner! And that many people who work in the aviation sector can get back to business. I know you are desperate to get to Spain, hopefully you will get there finally

If there are serious obstacles put in the way of UK residents travelling abroad relatively freely later this year, especially to the well-known holiday spots many of which are in EU countries, it won't be because of the situation in the UK where the vaccine rollout might reasonably be expected to have a significant effect on virus suppression, which it is already doing. The situation in EU countries where the vaccine rollout is in its infancy would be the likely sticking point if the UK government and the devolved governments did not want to risk its citizens travelling abroad where they would come into contact with a still serious infection regime (if indeed that was still the case because of an unsatisfactory vaccine rollout).

The political decision that will have to be taken will, as has been the case throughout the pandemic, have to balance the impact of longer term travel restrictions with the harm it would do to the economy, especially the travel and related industries. Senior scientists and medicos have to take into account the medical issues when they exercise their professional judgement on the possible impacts of the pandemic, as we saw yesterday with a senior scientist making the remark about overseas holidays being unlikely this year. That doesn't take into account the economic issues.

AnadoluJet, a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, will launch a new operation from Birmingham Airport on the 19th July 2021 to the popular leisure destinations of Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey.

The flights will arrive into Birmingham daily at 1140 hours and depart at 1240 hours, using a 189 seat Boeing 737-800 jet. Bookings can be made via www.thy.com or www.anadolujet.com or through local travel agents.

AnadoluJet, a brand-new carrier for Birmingham Airport, operates low fare and convenient flights at 43 airports and 80 routes with a fleet of 36 aircraft.

Commenting on the news, Tom Screen, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Director, said: “As we prepare to welcome customers back flying again, we are extremely pleased that AnadoluJet will be offering new services to Antalya and Dalaman from the 19th July 2021. Working with its parent company, Turkish Airlines, over many years of flying to Istanbul from Birmingham, I know that customers will receive outstanding service, affordability and reliability with AnadoluJet.”

Mr. Omer Faruk, Turkish Airlines’ General Manager, Birmingham, said: “We are delighted to announce that we are starting non-stop flights to Antalya and Dalaman with AnadoluJet, trademark of Turkish Airlines.  Whether it's couples looking for a romantic break, families setting sail on a summer holiday or friends looking for a week of fun in the sun, Antalya and Dalaman have something for everyone. We are looking forward to welcoming passengers onboard this summer."

Birmingham Airport is the UK’s third largest airport outside London and supports employment on site for 7000 people. Prior to the COVID pandemic, some 13 million passengers travelled through the airport annually, and as it prepares for the restart of travel once restrictions are lifted, health and safety will be front and centre of its plans.

The comment from Tom Screen suggesting 'affordability' and the phrase 'low fare' both stuck out. I've left this for a week hoping that it would settle but now the press release is out many may see the news today and take a look for travel this summer.

Return base fare flights to Dalaman in August.

From Birmingham with Anadolujet - £1340 per adult and £1005 per child, add on taxes etc and it makes just the flights for my family of four £5133.04.

From Manchester with Turkish on the same dates - £330 per adult and £247 per child, add on taxes etc and it makes just the flights for my family of four £1621.96.

Antalya is very similar.

I hope(d) that it may be just the initial upload with a more realistic fare structure to be added but a week on and with a press release out I have to wonder, especially noting comments from @Karl Cunningham not too long ago about BA business class to LHR being cheaper than Turkish economy to BHX

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
