Lufthansa will increase capacity out of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) by 50% from next summer offering six weekly departures.
Extra services will start on May 2, 2023, almost 12 months to the day when it first started its route to Frankfurt. This was the first connection between Liverpool and a global hub since KLM’s link to Amsterdam which closed in 2012.
It offers onward routes to 150 global destinations via the German hub. Lufthansa says the level of demand for the service has prompted the expansion.
Heinrich Lange, Lufthansa’s senior director sales northern Europe, said: “This new Lufthansa connection from Liverpool to Frankfurt has already enjoyed a very good level of demand in its first year. Liverpool has also proved popular as a new destination.
“For next summer we are now doubling our number of flights to six per week, increasing our flexibility as passengers will have more flight connections available to them via our Frankfurt hub. Liverpool will see even more incoming guests as well.”
This news comes just a week after four new routes were announced for Liverpool Airport for next summer, three from Ryanair and one from easyJet. The easyJet route will also see an extra aircraft and 40 new jobs out of LJLA.
Increased frequency on the Frankfurt route means that Liverpool will connect with even more destinations, along with offering more departure choices for existing connections over Frankfurt. These include Dubai, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Liverpool Airport chief executive John Irving added: ”This is tremendous news not just for the airport but for the city region and beyond.
“This will enable passengers to easily travel to more global destinations via Frankfurt with the benefit of starting their journey from Liverpool. It is also good news for the region’s visitor economy, further opening up access for visitors to Liverpool city region.”

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
