Do we see this ever becoming a proposition again?

Since United pulled out in 2017 there hasn't been a replacement, and from what I read they were struggling to sustain it even in the 90s when British Airways did a daily link to JFK.

Forget the US big 3 they will not return to the regions they will focus on London & Edinburgh.

Jetblue have plans to expand the UK but would want to build up frequencies at LHR / LGW first, but they would probably opt for Edinburgh maybe Manchester.

The demand is there from Birmingham we all know that but are the yields ?

Brummies seem happy to drive 100 miles to get a plane to the States - just like me next Thursday.

Pity Premeria failed as they is exactly the type of operation that would have suited Birmingham.

Maybe Hans ?

Whilst not direct, Icelandair had some decent connections across North America, getting them back would be a good start.

Unless BHX have something up their sleeve that we don't know about I just can't see anything direct on the horizon :(

My money is on Air India (y)

Their 787's do the USA and Canada direct from India quite comfortably so not sure they need a stop now :(

Primera ultimately did a lot of damage to Birmingham USA operations. It will be a real struggle to get anything back in the near future. I live in hope however.

I find it so depressing that we’ve gone from AA, United & possibly Monarch to nothing from BHX to JFK.. Aer Lingus via Dublin is so expensive too. Also didn’t we used to have a successful Chicago route pre 2001?

JetBlue would be my first choice but something like Emirates to JFK similar to their Milan stop over would be perfect.

Yes, American Airlines served Chicago for many years. Initially with B767's and later, DC-10's. If memory serves me correctly, it was twice daily at one time.

The America Airlines service to Chicago was only operated by B762's and then B763's, their JFK service was only on the B757.

Continental used to operate from Newark with their DC10's, and it was replaced for a while by a double daily B757 service, before they were taken over by United, and Newark was then served daily by B757s

To be honest, I've given up on hoping for flights to the USA from BHX. Whilst a city the size of Birmingham should be able to sustain a link to NYC, having that route is more a status symbol than anything meaningful IMHO.

Pre pandemic, looking at our entire long haul portfolio (Emirates, Qatar, Air India, PIA, TUI, etc), after Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester, BHX probably had the most long haul passengers. Even if the likes of EDI/GLA sustain links to the USA where BHX can't, our destinations in Asia and the Caribbean far outweigh theirs.

The biggest problem for BHX - USA is which airline, as I just can't see any airline that currently operates UK - USA adding flights from BHX.

I'd rather the airport focus on getting TUI to offer more flights to Orlando and launch new long haul routes with TUI to the Caribbean.

Edinurgh is always going to do well with long haul due being capital of Scotland and a large tourist base and of course well know by
American public

I think we are many years away from direct flights again to US, i would love to see Iceland air back as they offer great options.
I think our priorities are getting the likes of Berlin Milan served plus Qatar of course

You reckon?

From what I gather, didn't they only do a few flights in the end?

Was Monarch a possibility?

t's ironic that a city more than double the population of Manchester can't hold down a few TA routes.

Its's futile comparing the "City of Birmingham" to the "City of Manchester". When you look at the wider urban/metro area, the populations of the two are practically identical.

Even every Monday, Wednesday, Friday would be better than nothing.

Used to prefer Continental 33/32 as didn’t have to get to Birmingham at 6am for that one. CO27 hated it. Up at 4am to be at airport for 6am. Was horrible in winter.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
