Hi all,

We've recently implemented a new post-merging system where if you are the last poster in a thread, then newer posts will be merged together into one if they are posted in succession within a 24-hour (1440 minute) period. This has been done to prevent abuse of users posting in quick succession to ensure their posts/threads constantly remain in the "new posts" list, while also reducing server loads.

Upon posts being merged, a message should be displayed between the original post and the new one stating "Post automatically merged: {TIMEFRAME}" and no content should be edited or deleted while the posts are being merged. Users will be notified if a post has been merged and anyone quoted or mentioned will also be notified appropriately. Post merging will also notify any forum or thread subscribers that new content has been posted.

If you have any questions, then please feel free to let us know.

The problem I see with this is that I am generally the only person who posts in the Liverpool thread. Therefore am I right in thinking that once Ive posted , nothing else will be displayed ? I have posted some information today on new information, it doesn't show ?

It should still show and be merged into the last post, as shown here: https://forums4airports.com/threads/4570/page-24#post-247120 forum and thread subscribers should however still be notified about the new content. I note that the thread appears to be a daily log of specific arrivals. Unfortunately, no exceptions can be made to this new rule, but my advice would be to try and wait 24 hours (1440 minute period) between posts if you are the last poster.

Its not a daily thread of specific arrivals , I add what ever news is upcoming, as per the topics. Waiting 24 hours will basically just add " late " information, its a pretty inconvenient rule tbh.

Let's see how it works in practice. It maybe that some tweaks can be carried out to improve how the merging of posts works in practice. In this instance your initial concern wasn't the merging of posts but the fact that you thought your post had not been posted at all.

If there's anything I can do do assist with promoting the Liverpool forum, please let me know.

One thing I seem to have noticed with the merged posts, is that they don't show as 'new' in Latest Posts column or flag as 'new' in the relevant thread. Is it possible to do anything about this?

Kevin

Unfortunately not, though as noted thread/forum subscribers should still get notified that new content has been posted. I am however looking at reducing the 24-hour wait period after reviewing content, subject to approval from @Aviador as the main aim of the system was to reduce people posting again and again within a matter of minutes/hours of the last post ;)

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
