We have a lot of older 800’s at LBA…I think its down to reliability rather than fuel economy.

737-300 vs 737-800: Fuel Efficiency Breakdown (Even for 25–30-year-old aircraft)

1. Raw fuel burn (block fuel)

A 737-800 burns more fuel per hour than a 737-300, because:
  • It’s larger
  • It’s heavier
  • It has more powerful engine
I think it is common knowledge Jet2 rotate their -800 fleet around MAN & LBA due to needing hangar maintenance, so no doubt the airline has no control which aircraft or ages are in the these bases half of the time. No doubt the extra seats on the -800 / revenue are beneficial then the -300. Looking at the website, the -300's are only planned to fly every so often in the winter

You keep saying we have a lot of older 800s. Each time I check, we don't have 'a lot.l' Today is no exception.

We have had 8 different 800s land today. Of those, 3 are what you might call old. (26, 25 and 25). 1 is approaching middle age at 12 , 3 are 8 years old and 1 is 7 years old. Those last four are from the last batches delivered new so as new as they get with Jet2.

So, as is usually the case, we have a mix, but definitely not 'a lot' of old ones.
I was merely comparing the fuel consumption of an older 300 with an older 800, as I personally think the lack of use is down to the 300's reliability rather than fuel consumption, plus they are now keeping them to the end of 2027, so probably dont want to work them hard if they have spare 800's sat around in winter.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
