I think you will find thats with every form of transport in spain, the modern world, the country is in a different league compared to here , everytime i return home i cant believe how backwards here is, almost 3rd world and in many ways now!


Yes spains road infrastructure is excellent, they dont mess about they just get on with their road building programs, and the new roads that are laid are smooth, spacious and clean on the eye with proper road markings plus at night their roads are far easier to drive on due to them been so well lit with proper cats eyes and flashing arrows on the bends, not the eyesore rubbish of raised curbs, narrowed juncs to accomadate cycle lanes, dodgy patch up jobs and pot holes etc we get here. For me i absolutely love driving in spain.
as an example in just 5 weeks they have constructed 2 new slip roads that join and leave the n332 road to the villajoyosa/benidorm hospital plus the hospital itself is undergoing a large extension. Now imagine how long that would take here to do.
In alicante itself one of the large roads that passes through it used to have 3 trouble spot roundabouts with heavy congestion, within 6 months they constructed 3 dual carriageway tunnels under each roundabout, so basically traffic over and under and linked with slip roads. Can you ever imagine them doing that at the horsforth roundabout!🤣

By the time Spain has finished a project, we have just about got around to the consultation. After that we amend the plan and then have another consultation. England should be renamed Nimbyland.

I agree about Spanish roads. They make ours look and feel like dirt tracks. I love driving there and the standard of driving is way better generally too.

Could be worse - the roads in Italy are almost as good as the ones in the UK, and I’d choose LBA over Pisa airport any day of the week

But yes, I’d way rather the Spanish way of doing things over here, they’re a government who knows what they’re doing

I fully agree with what you say about their standard of driving been better, the spanish do get a little confused on roundabouts and most have never heard of a thing called clearance but other than that their standards are higher now!

Our planning laws are unfit for the 21st Century and enable minority groups (not naming any names!) to cause havoc out of all proportion to their cause as LBA know only too well.

As an outside, the British (English in particular) really do put things down in their own country. LBA4EVER you make it out like Nirvana in Spain, which it is not- I know I lived in Spain (as well as other countries in Europe). I can agree that some Spanish roads are better, but their driving is definitely not - most Spaniards think nothing of having a few chupitos and then driving home, and the youth go to a botellon and then drive, which is madness.
Off the main autopsistas de peaje(toll road) the autovias(a road) vary as they do over here. Coastal roads are better kept, but inland Spain can be very sketchy.
Regarding building infrastructure they benefit from being much larger and not having legacy infrastructure to work around. This reflects that up until recently much of Spain was undeveloped.
Their planning system is quicker than ours and does move at pace and this works well for things like their airports. However, the down side is that often the system lacks scrutiny and leads to unregulated urban development which in part has led to issues, such as in flash flood events.
Back on topic, whilst AENA may not be able to change our planning system, their procurement and sheer scale may assist LBA with any future developments which may help with costs if nothing else.

I guess here in the uk the standard of driving depends on which area your in, so for eg driving round say north leeds, harrogate and the like the standard of driving will be higher, but more inner city areas and esp bradford the driving is pretty appalling, some driving i see around bradford is beyond crazy! So guess its alot down to who lives in them areas if members get me. In my work i see it every day! Regs road infrastructure in spain certainly in the alicante region the N, AP and A roads are far superior to our main roads and even the little roads that head up into the mountains are so smooth, well marked and sign posted, but of course spains a big country so perhaps there are areas that are not as good. Anyway enough talk about spanish roads lets hope AENA can sort our 4.5million pax int airport and start securing some new airlines and routes that curently all seem to be leaving!

Can certainly vouch for **** driving in Bradford. There are certain areas we will avoid if an alternative is available. I will leave it there.......

I lived in Spain for quite a time and had a Spanish car and I would have to say that driving in the UK is better, British drivers are far more courteous to one another for a start.

Yet you never see any traffic cops and I can never understand why there are no speed cameras on Shipley Airedale Road out of Bradford where the boy racers have a field day ignoring the 40mph speed limit with impunity and running red lights.

I noticed when passing through LBA on Saturday morning a New WHS Smiths Kiosk has opened in the Terminal Extension. Oh yes they have taken at least 2 rows of seating out to put this in.

I’m really disappointed with this layout change. Removing seating is bad enough, but blocking the unrestricted view across the ramp from that spot is a huge step backward. The terminal extension was the one area where natural light could flow freely into departures. Have they actually altered the final design plans for the old building's regeneration, or is this just an unannounced add-on? LBA is a compact airport, there was zero need for this. I felt the exact same way about the small additional Duty Free; it just feels completely unnecessary.

Agree with Aviador, this and the Duty Free feel like a step backwards. It’s not like the terminal is the size of Heathrow so need these extra shops.

I get they want to maximise revenue but blocking the view and removing seating isn’t going to help customer experience which is just as important. An unhappy passenger is less likely to return and spend money in the future.
