Cardiff: Airport Cargo Operations

Apparently the dispute is between CWL and the EC, and previously mentioned in a post by Samdorob. and not between CWL and the airline, sorry for wording it wrongly. It also mentions the possibility of further carriers into CWL.

It was mentioned in an FB comment by someone who works on the ground at the airport. As with all these things they could just be hearsay.

I read on the Cardiff Airport fan Facebook page that negotiations are ongoing with EC after some disagreements.
The same person also mentioned there are other cargo carriers lined up. It could just be made up rumours, but one to watch out for in terms of Cargo expansion.

Ongoing disagreements is different to a dispute in my eyes.
Ongoing disagreements could simply mean ironing out some contractual issues. Dispute would refer to a relationship break down. Two very different things as I read it.

Poster on Pprune quoting an article on linkedin, of a European Cargo plane being the first A340-600, to land in Antartica. I wonder if we will see them back at CWL anytime soon, I hope the discussions that were taking place between them were successful.

Well hopefully we'll see them back but if not them then maybe other cargo airlines in the future.

No idea but whether it's resolved or not its plain the relationship has ended. Its a shame especially from an avgeek point of view.

A huge shame that the "base" never materialised. The situation clearly didn't work for at least one of the two parties involved.

Interesting that Amazon are going to build a depot at Cardiff Docks. Fingers crossed this leads to Air Freight services from Cardiff Airport.

CWL is well placed for Prime Air of Amazon with large fullfillment centres at Bristol and Swansea, and now a depot at Cardiff, let's hope they have a look at cargo flights into CWL.

Someone replied elsewhere that this depot is already operational. I believe Teesside has an Amazon service operated by FedEx.

There seems to be a lot of concern on Pprune over European Cargo operations at Teesside, which have apparently been paused due to fuel shortage in China. Some of the posters on Prune seem to have their doubts this is the true reason, and are suggesting that Europeans' stay at Teesside may be short lived. I did read many months ago, that a poster at Bournemouth stated that they owed a lot of money to the airport, but how true that was I don't know.

The current political situation in the ME is going to impact a lot of things and unfortunately the aviation industry is particularly far from immune. It does appear that European are moving around from airport to airport a bit (BOH, CWL, MME). Is this a business model akin to how Play tried to change direction of their business. And the end result was.........

I very much suspect an operation like that relies on very tight margins and operating a fuel guzzling A340 on such an operation isn't going to help either especially with the price of jet fuel so high. Also if people are worried about how they're going to pay for things like fuel they're going to buy less stuff leading to less volume needing to be transported. So double whammy.

Business live has announced that CWL has appointed Chris Bosworth, Managing Director of Airport Coordination, to the Board of Cardiff Airport. He was previously in a senior leadership role at British Airways Cargo, and is a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society. His aim will be to drive the Cargo business forward at the airport.

There definitely does seem a focus to attract more cargo operations to the airport and diversify.
