I recently flew with Malaysia Airlines on their Airbus A330-300 from Osaka (KIX) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL), roughly a 6-hour flight that gave me a good look at how the airline’s long-haul Economy product is holding up in 2025.
The aircraft was delivered back in 2012, and you can definitely tell it’s ageing a little - from the seat design to the older-generation IFE screens. That said, the cabin was clean, legroom was okay, and the crew were absolutely excellent - easily one of the friendliest and most proactive I’ve flown with recently.
Service included one hot meal round and a snack before landing. On the plus though, although not Starlink there was complimentary Wi-Fi (through MHConnect), which was surprisingly stable for messaging and light browsing. The food and general hardware were average, but the crew really elevated the experience overall.
I also included a short segment on why Kansai Airport is literally sinking - which is a fascinating piece of engineering history in itself.
Route: Osaka-Kansai (KIX) → Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Aircraft: Airbus A330-300 (9M-MTG)
Cabin: Economy
Flight Time: 6h 12m
Cost: 20,750 Avios + £78.20 (taxes/fees)
Curious to hear from anyone else who’s flown Malaysia Airlines long-haul recently? How do you think their product compares to other Oneworld carriers like Cathay, JAL, or Qatar?
