Re: Passenger Figures Update

Not a very good start to the year, only 105681 passengers used LBA in January a drop of 16% on last year. The weather will not have helped matters but it is still way down on previous years. The last time the January figure was lower was in 2003. Thinking positively, things should improve from April onward.

Most of the reductions at LBA have come from planned reductions in the Jet2 schedule. I think Jet2 have been spot on with their planning. It's better that the reductions have come this way rather than the alternative had the frequency of flights stayed at last winters levels it wouldn't have done the airline any good.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

The initial provisional stats don't usually alter very much when the final version is published (as you have noted), except on rare occasions and then it is usually obvious that a c*ck-up has occurred. In the past year I remember one month that the Jersey figures were all at sea and East Midlands was also botched on another occasion - both were rectified within a couple of days but they were clearly wrong at the outset.

The thing I look at with the fall in passenger numbers at all airports over the past year and more is the atms.

In January LBA atms were down 16.4%, exactly the same percentage as the passenger fall that month. In broad terms this suggests that loads on the flights that did operate held up - doesn't tell us anything about the yield though, the important thing of course.

Some airports have seen percentage passenger falls much greater than percentage atm falls that suggests that not only were there fewer flights but those that did operate were less full.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

LBA stats seem pretty consistent when you look at the likes of MAN and DSA. They also had a shocking month. Still, only 5 weeks to go now to the big kick off!!

Re: Passenger Figures Update

It is now a week since the CAA provisional figures were published and LBA is still not on there. It wasn't that busy a month so they should have been able to add them up by now! Can anybody throw any light on the matter?

Re: Passenger Figures Update

The CAA provisional monthly stats are always published in tranches and for some reason LBA is often amongst the last group to appear.

I would expect them to be published this week.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

February 2010

CAA provisional stats now published. LBA handled 119,597 passengers, down 8.5% on February 2009. Atms were down 10.6%.

Rolling 12-month figure to end of February 2010 is 2,520,797, down 9.8% on a year ago.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

We must have lost a lot of passengers during January due to cancelled flights, resulting from days of snow, so those 16% drop figures would almost certain reflect that fact. I would suspect otherwise the reduction would be very similar to those at the end of 2009 and those now published for February.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

The provisional figures for March are 163560, an increase of 2.5%. At last a change in the "downward spiral". Lets hope that we get rid of the Volcanic dust and get back flying towards the 3 million mark.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

I think that the March statistics will be the last meaningful ones for some time. What you didn't mention is that both MAN and DSA were down.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

I thought that this thread was for LBA paasenger movements? Why should I mention MAM/DSA?

Re: Passenger Figures Update

Just got the CAA stats, and I am astonished to say the least. Obviously, the whole ash cloud business has shot everyones stats to buggery, but they make very interesting reading nevertheless. Here are the main ones for the region:

Humberside - Down 62.7%
Durham - Down 38.4%
Doncaster - Down 29.6%
Manchester - Down 26.1%
Newcastle - Down - 23.6%
Liverpool - Down 12.4%
Leeds/Bradford - Down just 3.2%

Well done LBA by the looks of it.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

LBA's figures are outstanding.

Not only were passenger numbers down only 3.2% but atms for the month were down 9% which suggests loads up per aircraft.

The average drop in passenger numbers across all UK airports in April was 22.6% which is not surprising as most airport were shut for about six days or 20% of the month.

Ignoring the miniscule Alderney and Oxford airports the next best performers were Belfast City, Liverpool and Bristol (down between 10.5% and 12.5%). Many of the top twenty airports were down well in excess of 20%.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

Is it a figure compared with the same period last year?

if it is, surely the decrease has been helped by Ryanair opening a base here at LBA!

Re: Passenger Figures Update

You have to also add onto most of the domestic routes and some international routes +25% should they have operated if the ash hadn't shut the airspace for a week, so really we should have been at around +10%.

The increase is no doubt due to the additional Ryanair services, though passenger figues have been steady on most routes (French routes around 100-130 per flight, Spanish/Malta/Italian around 140-150 per flight and knock around 100 per flight). Jet2 have got some extremely good loads this year compared to last summer, the spanish routes are all full, Since MARCH no flight has left to Spain with less than a 90% load factor (140 pax on a 733 and 220 pax on a 757 average). That is much better than last year, Italian routes are doing exceptionally well with around 130 on each flight too. Canaries, Sharm and Paphos all fully booked for the last few weeks (operating at around 225 passengers on each flight) and the first Dalaman flight leaving today with 220 passengers on.

The overall net available seats on Jet2 for the summer is one 757 down, with Murcia and Faro generally being operated on 733's rather than 75's. This is not a huge loss as the 4th 757 last summer only operated 2 sectors. 733 utilisation is increased on some routes so with Jet2 alone I would expect some growth, factoring in Ryanair, we should be in double digit growth over the summer months.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

i must say jet 2 was brilliant during the ash crisis they got me home from the canaries when the other airlines was so quick to cancel ..not mentioning any names.

Re: Passenger Figures Update

I have heard the same too!

A friend of my parents was in Europe somewhere and as soon as most airlines withdrew there flights, she still found herself flying and diverted to Teeside, before been sent on coaches back to LBA! They arrived just 2 hours late!

Jet2 were in the Bradford T&A also the other day with this article. http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/n ... sh_delays/

Re: Passenger Figures Update

From many comments heard, Jet2 have been very pro-active in the response to "ash cloud" cancellations and got people back with the minimum of delay. Their good customer service will reap its rewards in the months to come. Well done!

Re: Passenger Figures Update

May 2010

LBA amongst the first group of airports to be featured in the CAA provisional stats for May.

253,216 passengers handled, up 4.4% on May 2009, with atms up 4.9%.

Rolling 12-month to end of May 2010 is 2,530,041, down 6% on a year ago.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
