Keep this up and we might eventually get promoted to the UK's 13th biggest airport. In summer, it's getting that way. Winter, traditionally, undoes that. Jet2 going into LPL will however give them a major boost next year. In response, we get Sun Express plus ???
Looks like we will overtake EMA and LPL but LPL will pull back with jet2 starting ops next year there. NCL is the big one to hopefully overtake pax wise esp once the terminal is expanded with hopefully new airlines and current airlines expanding.

Please find below my take on the May's statistics based on the CAA files. Interesting, as so often happens there is a difference between the passengers figures from Table 9, which shows 385,372 passengers whilst the separate domestic/international numbers are as per my report!! The difference this time is however rather larger than normal. Maybe White Heather can provide the airport's own numbers?

For those interested you will find my 2019 v 2023 comparison here:

I've already given the only airport figures I can. These only cover up to the 28th May as they are weekly figures. Up to 28th May the passenger total was given as 344,043 so it's that plus another 3 days.

My apologies @WH, I was concentrating too hard on trying to resolve the difference in the figures and hadn't read your previous post - I'm having even bigger problems trying to sort a difference in the Liverpool numbers. I don't know what the heck the CAA has been doing to the May records!!

A few other airports now doing better than LBA in % terms. Just wonder if that is terminal and apron capacity that is just currently hindering LBA? We clearly need more away based flights and/or bigger aircraft from our based carriers - perhaps 1 in particular that does have them in the fleet - assuming the terminal could cope!

We have moved up a position though beating LPL, EMA and NCL are the 2 to try catch now. LPL will see increased pax im sure next year with jet2 at the airport, if we see further growth at lba next year then i bet it will be a close competition between the 4 northern airports.

If LBA recovered faster than some other airports the percentage growth this year is going to be lower than those airports that didn't do so well last year but which are now getting back on track. Effectively, percentage increases are pretty meaningless . After all an increase from 100 pax to 200 pax is a 100% increase. Sounds great, but really isn't. It's the passenger numbers that matter.

These figures compare 12m pax figure at 30.06.23 compared to best ever rolling 12m pax figure

Heathrow – 72,629,571 – 81,060,616 – down 10.4%

Gatwick - 38,189,923 – 46,641,853 – down 18.1%

Stansted – 26,474,656 – 28,479,201 – down 7.6%

Manchester – 26,224,638 – 29,463,707 – down 11.0%

Luton – 15,439,181 – 18,270,337 – down 15.5%

Edinburgh – 13,108,439 – 14,772,443 – down 11.3%

Birmingham – 10,739,263 – 13,058,440 – down 17.8%

Bristol – 9,030,137 – 9,015,726 – up 0.1%

Glasgow – 7,116,645 – 9,907,504 – down 28.2%

Belfast Int – 5,255,255 – 6,508,170 – down 19.2%

Liverpool – 3,926,733 – 5,079,042 – down 22.7%

Leeds Bradford – 3,689,194 – 4,082,864 – down 9.6%

East Midlands – 3,521,612 – 4,878,781 – down 27.8%

Agreed re % figures in general but equally our two nearest rivals showing higher % so EMA pulling away and LPL catching up so definitely some relevance

EMA more pax and higher % so def them pulling away. LPL less pax but higher % (and still a bigger pax number increase) so def them catching up. Easy to put any spin you want on figures. Regardless of all that LBA doing remarkably well and long may that continue
Ironic that an LBA based airline will probably be responsible for ensuring that LPL once again pulls ahead of LBA next summer.

Which I suspect goes back to current LBA capacity constraints rather than any unwillingness to expand at LBA that is helping give these other airports the opportunity
Undoubtedly. LBA cannot expand further via based carriers, the only way of expanding further would be more non based flights operating at quieter times such as mid morning. Sun Express will be a start but more is needed. Even when the terminal is done and capacity increased, there remains the thorny issue of the night quota to resolve and particularly that of the MAX and NEOs impact on it.

Bigger aircraft from based carrier(s) would/could also help once the terminal completed - doesn’t have to be more flights but:
More stands and more terminal capacity
Larger based aircaft
More away based flights (inc larger aircraft)
We could soon have EMA in our sights and be leaving LPL for dust.
Just saying like.............

Larger based aircraft will definitely help.

Jet2
7x Boeing 737-300 replaced with either Boeing 737-8MG's or the new Airbus A320NEO's
10x Boeing 737-800 replaced with Airbus A321NEO's

Ryanair
2x more Boeing 737-800's replaced by Boeing 737-MAX8's or even the MAX10's.

Now as for new stands, when the built.
3x Airbus A320NEO's from either Wizz Air UK or easyJet would be nice. If not I bet Jet2 & Ryanair could easily fill them with NEO's and MAX's

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
