CAA stats October 2015

328,244 passengers handled, up 3.9% on October 2014. Atms up 2.8%. Rolling 12-month total 3,445,147 up 6% on a year ago.

Thanks Local Yokel. Not bad for an airport that is standing still. Just imagine what could be achieved if it moved forward again. November will be interesting - always the quietest month as the summer sun holidays end and the ski flights haven't yet started.

Winter sees 3.3% decline in passenger numbers

Passenger stats for November 2015

A total of 163,186 passengers used the airport during November down -3.3% on November last year.

Rolling year passengers totals remain good 5.7% up on the previous twelve months.

The stats don't look good compared with our competitors DSA +26%, MAN +6.3% & LPL +5.%2 which all show healthy increases in passenger numbers and comparable airport Bristol with a 10.2% increase. I know we had days of disruption with the weather which again asks the question how long can we continue like this with a runway that is in need of some serious money spending on it and soon. We only need one of our three major bucket and spade airlines to up sticks and the airport will have serious issues. Diversions must be costing them thousand and one wonders how long they are going to put up with this extra cost. Year on year figures still very good but a few more months like November and we could be into negative territory.

I believe the number of ATM's were down on last year. Don't forget Flybe operated 6 flights each day on the JER-SOU-LBA-ABZ shuttle last November.

At least the Heathrow, Aberdeen and Belfast figures were all up.

Yeah I agree "Bigman" it's good to see BA are doing well still on the Heathrow route.

With flybe axing the "Shuttle" it looks as though the Southampton figures took a big hit which we all kinda knew would make a big dint to the monthly pax figure and most likely will continue to do so for a while, well that's unless Eastern Airways can fill in the void now they are flying 4x daily to Southampton using the larger Saab 2000 offering one-way fares from £49. You've got to remember that for first week and a half of November Eastern had to use the smaller Jetstream on the route due to late announcement of the aircraft change.

They has to be some hope the figures might pick up again next winter what with Aurigny going year round on the new Guernsey route and hopefully both Vueling to Barcelona, Aer Lingus to Cork and hopefully Monarch to Malaga going year round. It also looks like Jet2 are offering more winter sun flights next winter 2016/17 season.

Think some people just like to report the negative side of things. To be honest I'm glad flybe have shown there true colours and thrown out there dummy and axed both the shuttle service and announced its DSA base. Just goes to show they have never really been committed to a full based operation out of LBA. Better getting them out now before any further damage was done! . :whiteflag:

Obviously disappointing to see a decrease in numbers, but when you look it relates to 180 passengers a day, one good 737 load.
Paris I understand took a hit mid month and did not help other northern european capital numbers.
I am sure most of us would take a 5.7% increase in 2015 numbers.

No it highlights how poor the winter offering is when all it takes is the loss of one Flybe shuttle to equate to a total passenger drop of 3.3% overall.

It is only one month though so let's see what December brings. Things could look different again.

Is it just Flybe or did Paris as I have read elswhere put a huge damper on travel, especially business travel. Whilst I dont always take the Mail on Sunday and the Sunday Times as the truthfull bible, they have shown a huge dip in flying numbers to Europe after mid Novenber in their business reports, talking about 15 to 20%. When you look a Leeds November schedule you can see a lot of flights that may have taken a hit.
This dip is still ongoing so Leeds December could again be effected. have flights to Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Paris etc, shown any year on year decline in November.

Strangely, I'm actually quite surprised that the decrease was only 3.3% given we had such a high proportion of diversions and cancellations during November compared to other airports, due to what seemed an endless flow of foggy days, wind and low cloud. In my eyes any route which saw growth during last month had a decent month, it would have been interesting to know what numbers on some of the routes worst affected by diversions/cancellations might have been if things had been better (BA, EI, BE and LS flights were particularly hard hit in this respect).

Strangely, I'm actually quite surprised that the decrease was only 3.3% given we had such a high proportion of diversions and cancellations during November compared to other airports............

The CAA allocates passengers to the original operational airport when flights are diverted so a flight, say, from AMS to LBA diverted to MAN would still count in LBA's passenger figures and not MAN's.

Note 6 in the domestic and international route analysis tables.

In order to preserve market analysis all identifiable diversions are reallocated to the point of intended operation.

That's something I never knew before!! As a BHX supporter that's a little disappointing because none of those heavies that diverted in from LHR around a month ago will add anything to our own pax figures.

At least it's just fog and not snow

Come on guys and gals, it's not all that bad. Juts look at the year Aberdeen have had. We could catch them up soon the way things are going. There have been many months this year where we have seen pluses, and other airports have seen minuses. Swings and roundabouts!!

According to the December 2015 stats, we had one of our worst results on the Heathrow for quite some time . We went down 22% from 10,525 to just 8,245. Not good reading!!

I think whoshotjimmi mention a couple of weeks ago that Virgin were offering some unbeatable deals on their King's Cross service. That might explain it but hopefully there's another less sinister reason for the reduction.

LBAspotter

Didn't the flights reduce over the same period last year?

Whatever the reason, lets hope it's a blip.

Could I suggest that the 'evening' northbound flight is too early at the moment - at the moment it's due to leave LHR at 1750, this means realistically that you have to be checked in and well on your way through the airport by 1700 at absolute latest if they are to close boarding 40 minutes before departure. I'm in London next week and desperately wanted to use the LBA- LHR service but because I would have to leave central London by 4pm latest to guarantee getting to LHR in time I've ended up booking the train from Kings Cross back up to Leeds - I couldnt take the risk of missing the flight. Had it been an hour later it wouldn't have been an issue because it competes very well on price at that time of day.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
