Bad news in that Kosice seems to have been reduced to a single weekly rotation for the rest of the winter period. The Tuesday rotation is no longer bookable on the Wizz website, nor does it appear in Mayfly, leaving just the Saturday rotation.

I've looked at last week's Mayfly and Kosice was not shown on Tuesday so it seems the last Tuesday rotation was on 12 January.

Kosice returns on a Tuesday on 22 March (the week before Easter) before changing to Monday and Friday through the summer. Let's hope it's better supported then or the route may disappear altogether. After a poor start I thought the Kosice numbers were improving but apparently by not enough to create an acceptable yield.

Maybe Wizz is now adopting a cautious stance about further routes at BRS which were expected by some people.

The Wizz booking engine shows Katowice returning to 3 x weekly (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) as it operated last summer but on different days, as opposed to the current Friday and Monday winter schedule.

Sofia, Monday and Thursday during this winter, will operate on Sunday and Thursday from the end of March.

Warsaw Chopin is still shown commencing at 2 x weekly (Sunday and Wednesday) from mid-May.

Addendum

Reading another forum Wizz appears to have stopped one of its two weekly rotations from Belfast International to both Vilnius and Katowice until later in March. I wonder if any other routes elsewhere have been reduced in this way.

Just checked the Saturday seat map for Saturday's Kosice route now that it's been reduced to once per week until March.

The inbound is showing 91.1% load factor and the outbound 87.2%.

Tomorrow's Katowice is showing 91.7% inbound and 92.2% outbound.

Katowice handled 2875 passengers, ave load 159.7, load factor 88.7%

Kosice handled 2190 passengers, ave load 156.5, load factor 86.9%. The Tuesday rotation was axed after 12 January leaving just the Saturday until later next month when the route is due to return to 2 x weekly.

Sofia handled 1704 passengers, ave load 142, load factor 78.9%. This route began on Monday 11 January.

Katowice's load factors under Wizz since it began are:

Winter 2016-2017

Only Sofia and Warsaw Chopin have been loaded in the Wizz booking engine for next winter, both 2 x weekly and both on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Still no sign of Katowice or Kosice.

I've checked BHX's six routes and all are loaded for next winter but Wizz does not operate to Katowice or Kosice from there.

I've also checked Doncaster-Sheffield that has ten Wizz routes and not all of them are loaded including Katowice and Kosice.

So maybe Katowice and Kosice will appear in due course at BRS.

Just tried a quick search for next January and Kosice is showing (for £53 return on the weekend I looked) but Katowice still isn't.

The fact Kosice returns for a second winter season must show confidence in this route plus the upgrade to an a321 on the Sofia route next year will be a real boost. I said it before and I say it again let's hope we see a few more routes real soon from wizz

CAA stats for February 2016

Katowice handled 2834 passengers, ave load 157.4, load factor 87.4%

Kosice handled 1248 passengers, ave load 156, load factor 86.7%. Only the Saturday rotation operated in February.

Sofia handled 2750 passengers, ave load 152.8, load factor 84.9%. This was the first full month of the route that began on 11 January. It didn't seem to affect the weekly charter flight to Sofia much where the passenger numbers were only sightly down on February 2015.

Katowice has an extra flight added over the Christmas period. From 15th Dec to 5th Jan it will be 3x weekly.

Looking at the Wizz Tours website Krakow is showing as a destination from Bristol, although it has the KTW airport code and shows the Katowice schedule. A website error or a preview of something to come?

With Ryanair just having started Krakow at 3 x weekly against easyJet's mainly 4 x weekly I'd have thought that there were more promising destinations if Wizz wants to add to its BRS network. Riga did well with Ryanair several years ago loads-wise but presumably that airline decided that yields were better elsewhere and axed it.

It's very similar at DSA - either before 8am or after 7pm. On a couple of evenings this summer there are 8 flights between 7 and 10pm.

So far as BRS is concerned it's probably no bad thing operationally as it spreads the load between all the easyJet and Ryanair flights that are mainly operated by based aircraft and tend to be away in mid evening operating their final rotations of the day but, as has been pointed out, not so good for taking pictures.

Warsaw Chopin

Wizz Air begins its 2 x weekly service (Sun and Wed) this weekend against Ryanair's established 3 x weekly Warsaw Modlin.

The Wizz seat selector is currently showing load factor 88.9% inbound and 84.4% outbound for Sunday. Ryanair's service to Modlin the day before (tomorrow) is 89.5% inbound and 91.5% outbound, so for this weekend at least Wizz doesn't seem to have compromised Ryanair.
