The question is what’s filling the gaps in between. Also the extra aircraft appears to be a a320

That was unexpected given that we are well into April. Obviously very good news, although for the time being the new easyJet routes and the increase on CDG are for July, August and September.

Biarritz was operated by easyJet in 2008 and 2009 and Milan Malpensa from 2007 to 2010 when Ryanair also competed, at one time both airlines operating daily on MXP.

At present neither Ryanair that will re-start its own MXP route at the end of May nor easyJet is showing any winter schedules on MXP from BRS. Given that between them they will continue operating to Venice through the year at up to 12 x weekly including winter, there must surely be hope that at some point MXP will operate in the winter by at least one of the airlines.

Brindisi has never been operated before by anyone as a scheduled route and I can't remember it ever operating as a regular charter flight either. As with Biarritz it probably won't have the capacity to develop into a year-round route although who would have thought that Catania would become a 12 month-a-year route?

With CDG increasing to double-daily for the peak summer months it has to be hoped that easyJet will be sufficently encouraged to increase the frequency year-round.

So with increases on CDG and two new routes this summer to Biarritz and Montpellier easyJet is certainly extending its French reach from BRS. It will be nine French routes this summer, the others being Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice, La Rochelle, Marseille and Nantes with the first three year-round. Ryanair also operates in summer to Limoges, Beziers and Bergerac.

All in all then some unexpected news for most of us I suspect, which is certainly welcome. It shows again easyJet's tremendous commitment to BRS, presumably because the airport is a good 'earner' for them. Brindisi, like La Rochelle and Ostersund (one of easyJet's comparatively rare BRS failures it would seem) is only operated by easyJet to LGW and BRS in the UK, and Montpellier is only operated to BRS, LGW and LTN in the UK by the airline.

We can see now why the airport was still confident of reaching 9 mppa this year despite the loss of flybmi. August might yet turn out to be the first ever month that sees one million passengers handled for the first time.

I certainly would like to think both targets are more than realistic now. Very good news indeed. I am guessing that Air France not interested in Paris ?

Maybe not for this year at least.

Anyone else noticed in an advertising email from easyJet today that Lyon is also a summer route. Nothing on sale tho

This is today's press release on the BRS website.

https://www.bristolairport.co.uk/ab...centre/2019/4/easyjet-new-routes-from-bristol

Nothing about Lyon although the ski season operating days are Thursday and Saturday whilst the app reportedly shows Monday and Friday, so perhaps that indicates it will be on sale soon for the peak summer. The Lyon metropolitan area is the second largest urban area in France and the second richest French city by GDP. It's a major banking centre and home to an important digital industry. Its history and buildings mean it is a popular tourist destination. Like Bath it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, so plenty to attract visitors out of the ski season. easyJet has had a Lyon ski season route for a number of years.

  • easyJet will position a 17th aircraft at its Bristol base from summer 2019
  • Brand new routes to Milan and Brindisi in Italy and Biarritz in France will launch in July
  • easyJet will add a second daily flight between Bristol and Paris to allow day trips for business travellers from July
  • easyJet summer flights from Bristol will increase by 10% to 770 flights a week in peak summer
  • easyJet will this year fly 55 million passengers since launching operations in Bristol over 18 years ago
easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, has announced a number of expansion developments at its Bristol base. The airline will position a 17th aircraft at its South West base and has added three brand new routes to the Bristol network. easyJet will also provide even more frequent flights to some of Bristol’s most in demand destinations, providing great value summer breaks or low-fared commutes for even more passengers.

A further 186-seat Airbus A320 aircraft will now be based in Bristol and joins seven 156-seat Airbus A319 and nine 186-seat A320 aircraft currently serving the airline’s customers in the South West. The additional aircraft will provide 93,000 additional seats for customers looking to travel to and from Bristol this summer.

Three brand new routes have joined the easyJet Bristol network, bringing the total routes now available to 74, with seats on sale from today.

A route between Bristol and Milan Malpensa will operate four times a week throughout the year on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with first flights taking off on 1st July. Flights between Bristol and Brindisi in Southern Italy will operate twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays and will launch on the 3rd July and flights between Bristol and Biarritz in the South of France will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays with flights launching on 2nd July, both operating throughout the summer season.

easyJet will also increase its Bristol – Paris Charles de Gaulle frequency, adding an additional daily flight to and from the French capital, providing even more opportunity for customers to enjoy a city getaway and a convenient schedule will allow for great value day trips for commuters from businesses across the South West.
This news follows last week’s announcement that easyJet has put seats on sale for even more frequent flights from Bristol to Belfast, Glasgow and Zakynthos. Glasgow is one of easyJet’s most popular domestic routes at Bristol and in the coming weeks easyJet will celebrate flying a milestone 5 million passengers between the two cities since the route was launched in 2001.

easyJet now operates up to 770 flights a week from Bristol across 74 routes - that’s 10% more flights compared to summer 2018.

In the coming weeks, easyJet will also celebrate flying 55m passengers since it launched operations from Bristol over 18 years ago and expects to fly over 5.2m passengers this year alone.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating further expansion at Bristol Airport. The addition of another aircraft and even more routes will help us to deliver long term, sustainable growth at the base providing passengers with an even greater range of convenient flights to a fantastic variety of destinations across our network - all with low fares and great service.

“We’re putting flights on sale today, allowing our customers to book early and take advantage of our lowest fares to some of our most popular business and leisure destinations.

“Our ongoing growth at Bristol demonstrates easyJet’s long-term commitment to providing connectivity for the South West. We continue to be the largest airline at Bristol and in the coming weeks we will carry our 55 millionth passenger, showing that our customers continue to book with confidence.”

Nigel Scott, Business Development Director for Bristol Airport said:

“This is fantastic news as easyJet continues to invest in Bristol Airport and basing seventeen aircraft at its second largest base. The additional aircraft will provide extra flights to Paris, and an additional three new destinations of Milan, Brindisi and Biarritz to the route network from Bristol Airport. The additional flight to Paris will provide twice daily flights to this hub city, particularly required by businesses in the region for the long-haul route connectivity. These new routes increase the choice of destinations available to passengers in the South West and Wales region, selecting to fly from their local airport.”

Paris at 7:30 am-to return by 21:40 flight is a no brainer. I mentioned many times before that their Paris schedules did not suit the business traveller.

This is perfect now for business and pleasure.
Agreed, but currently it's only for three months - July, August, September. It has to be hoped that easyJet will make it permanent, unless they are still waiting to see if Air France makes a re-appearance later in the year.

That's surprising, most French businesses shut down mid July to end of August. They must be aiming at leisure travelers.

Could be aiming at Disneyland traffic. That would be the busiest time for that I'd have thought.

Ref my post #1254 above which links the BRS press release, I missed this part of it when reading through the first time.

A route between Bristol and Milan Malpensa will operate four times a week throughout the year on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

I was thrown a bit because the easyJet booking engine only shows flights until the end of September as it does with Biarritz and Brindisi, and the increased Paris CDG schedule.

Nice to see CDG increased and times are good for a day trip. I have said many times why don't Easy jet put a extra rotation on.With the new routes announced and increase on others there is still a large un tapped market out there.Perhaps next year some of these destinations will be added with more aircraft based.

Milan MXP

Still only bookable on the easyJet website until the end of September this year despite the BRS press release of 16 April stating, A route between Bristol and Milan Malpensa will operate four times a week throughout the year on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, with first flights taking off on 1st July.

Ryanair's new MXP route is already bookable from the end of May, when it commences, until the end of the next winter season in late March 2020.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
