As I mentioned last week, EZY has 17x aircraft based at BRS this summer (7x A319s and 10x A320s) plus one spare aircraft.
I'm not sure when it was planned to base the spare aircraft; whether an opportunity came along when BMR closed, or maybe EZY had planned it when they knew that new stands were being built. I suspect though that with BRS now such a large base, (joint 5th with MAN in the whole of the EZY network behind LGW (1st), LTN, MXP and TXL) it was most likely planned due to the size of the operation at BRS.
Having a spare aircraft based at BRS should help to minimise delays and cancelations. Its benefits however may go unnoticed given that if an aircraft does go tech, then the spare aircraft can pick up the planned flights without too much hassle (given it is working and there are enough crew to operate it). We then might not see much of an effect on the days schedule whereas in the past, a spare aircraft may have had to position in from another base causing more delay, or even flights being cancelled.
Of course delays and cancelations will not just disappear now BRS has a spare aircraft based, but it's certainly better than not having one at all!
