[textarea]easyJet on the move in Bristol

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, has announced its Summer 2012 Schedule this week with low-fare seats now available on 41 routes from its Bristol base.

Some 5,498 flights are now on sale at www.easyJet.com, enabling passengers to secure the best fares early with more than 890,304 seats available for travel from 31 March 2013 through to 16 June 2013.

Does Easyjet always announce most of it's routes for the following year at the same time? Most other airlines seem to stagger destination releases.

Does Easyjet always announce most of it's routes for the following year at the same time? Most other airlines seem to stagger destination releases.

They seem to have put on sale all the routes for the first part of summer 2013, ie up to 16 June.

From memory they did the same for summer 2012 and possibly summer 2011 as well.

41 routes suggests the same as summer 2012 plus Copenhagen which re-starts this autumn (after a break of eight years!).

[textarea]easyJet celebrates its inaugural flight from Bristol to Copenhagen

easyJet, the largest operator at Bristol Airport, has today celebrated its inaugural flight to the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

Customers were taken by surprise and put in the mood for their trip by a Danish themed check in area where delicious Danish pastries were distributed. One lucky Bristol traveller won a pair of return flights for their next journey to the popular city break destination.

The four-times weekly flight will fly directly to Copenhagen each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, appealing to both business and leisure passengers alike. One-way flights from Bristol to Copenhagen start from £24.99, including taxes.

Ali Gayward, easyJet UK Commercial Manager said:

“We are delighted to be celebrating our latest route launch from Bristol Airport with our customers which will provide passengers from the South West with the only direct route to one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. Copenhagen offers visitors a rich culture and access to stunning tourist attractions. The route also further strengthens our commitment to offering travellers in the region the best choice of destinations at the lowest possible fares.”

Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport said:

“This new flight fills a long-standing gap on our destination map, meeting demand for a link between the South West and Scandinavia. Business links between Bristol and Denmark are growing, and a direct service to the capital can only help strengthen this relationship.

“easyJet has generated a great buzz in the check in area today and passengers on the Copenhagen flight are certainly looking forward to their city break. The route is also great for Danish tourists who want to visit Bristol’s attractions as well as the heritage city of Bath, Stonehenge and the Cotswolds.”

Copenhagen has repeatedly been recognised as one of the cities with the best quality of life, and is also considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the world. In the past decade, substantial investment has seen the city grow its reputation for culture, with astounding architecture and top-class food now some of the city’s top draws.[/textarea]

Misleading headline as it's not easyJet's inaugural flight between BRS and CPH at all. The route was operated by the airline in 2003 and 2004 and I used it.

This ought to satisfy the green campaigners who want no further expansion at BRS (but it won't) as Copenhagen is the EC's European Green Capital for 2014 with Bristol (and Frankfurt) runners-up.

Today's EP claims that EasyJet have announced 40 *new* routes out of Bristol for next summer - surely not?

It does indeed and next to the headline is a trusted source certificate.

Take out the word 'additional' and the article is bang on the nose.

[textarea]easyJet welcomes 30 millionth passenger at Bristol Airport

easyJet celebrated a major milestone today when its 30 millionth passenger at Bristol Airport boarded a flight to Naples.

Sarah Hodder and husband Andrew, from Rode in Somerset, were the lucky winners of return tickets to a destination of their choice.

Ali Gayward, UK Commercial Manager for easyJet, said:
“We are delighted to be celebrating the 30 millionth passenger from Bristol Airport – this milestone is a great reminder of easyJet’s commitment to the airport. We’re equally committed to the travellers in the region and will continue to offer the best choice of destinations at the lowest possible fares.”

Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, added:
“This latest milestone highlights just how many passengers over the past ten years have taken advantage of the convenience of flying from Bristol Airport with easyJet. For over a decade, easyJet has helped make the world a smaller place for people across the South West and Wales, making it easier to see new places, experience new places, visit friends and family or do business in new markets.”

easyJet serves 44 destinations from Bristol Airport, including a recently launched flight to Copenhagen.[/textarea]

Very impressive, consistent performance.

Bristol-Copenhagen

easyJet re-started this route on Friday 28 September this year after a gap of eight years.

It operates 4 x weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

I notice from the CAA stats for September that 563 passengers were carried on the four legs operated that month. This gives an average load of just under 141 which is impressive and suggests a strong beginning from both ends.

The route seems to be operated by a mix of 319 and 320 equipment. 141 per flight gives a load factor of 90% on the 319 and 78% on the 320.

the 2 extra a320 at brs. are they staying at brs to go with the third one.
also when s13 kicks off.is it staying at 3 or is another to be based for the season.
loads must be fairly good to have kept 3 for w12/13.

Looking at Mayfly for the week just ended some days see three 320s out of the ten Airbuses currently based and other days two with the other eight shown as 319s, and this doesn't take into account the occasional visiting 320 from such as NCL.

Last summer (from May) there were 11 based aircraft (three 320s and eight 319s) and I can't imagine it will be any less in summer 13. I've not heard whether a fourth 320 will replace one of the 319s this summer.

Sorry I can't be of any real help in this.

thanks for the reply.
was suprised to see 3 a320 over winter time.last year was just 1.so a fair increase in seats.routes cant be doing to bad to warrent 3 of them.
i wonder if its a case of increase slowly with them and also more routes with them.
just makes me wonder it its the start of an all 320 based planes.
mind you a few new routes would not go amiss.
new routes would mean more aircraft based. ok in winter but no gaps in summer. but then not everybody wants to travel min winter time.

easyJet seems to find BRS an airport that suits it. It's the airline's largest UK base outside London and I believe only one European airport is a bigger base - Milan Malpensa, though things might have changed since I last checked.

Reports appear in the press from time to time that BRS is one of the most profitable bases and easyJet says on occasions that it's still looking to operate new routes but only Copenhagen and Naples have appeared as new routes in the past year or so, albeit CPH was operated by easyJet from BRS in 2003-2004.

Capacity is being increased by enhanced frequency on some routes (EDI and GLA for instance) and by more 320s.

New aircraft being added to the fleet appear to be entirely 320s (see Jethro Fleet Listings) with a couple of 321s as well. Eight new 320s are due to arrive through summer 2013.

I don't know whether you saw my link in another BRS forum recently but BRS featured last week in anna.aero. It's worth a read (see link below) for anyone interested in BRS.

I smiled when I saw this spelling typo in the anna.aero piece:

Clearly it was this approach that led the airport to also court and ensnare Ryanair, with now a largely complimentary network.

Ryanair and complimentary shouldn't be used in the same breath as they charge for everything.

anna.aero certainly mentions a significant increase in BRS 320 flights this April compared with April 2012.

Early Summer 2013

I was looking at Mayfly for the week commencing 13 May this year and it seems that there are only ten based easyJet aircraft: 2 x 320s and 8 x 319s.

In the corresponding week last year there were eleven: 2 x 320s and 9 x 319s. In 2012 the eleventh aircraft arived in May instead of July as had been the pattern in recent summers, though in July one of the nine 319s was exchanged for a 320 making 3 x 320s.

Overall though there are a lot more seats on offer across all airlines. In 2012 there were 158,000 seats in the second week in May whereas this year there will be 168,000. The increase is due mainly, though not solely, to bmi regional.

Looking at the Mayfly for week commencing 20th May, that from Friday 24th May there are 3 x 320's and 8 x 319's, so the 3rd 320 has arrived earlier. Which brings us back up to 11 based aircraft. Not sure what that adds to the weekly seats figure. I am sure TheLocalYokel could give us these.

That's excellent news about the 11th based aircraft arriving in May again (as last year) albeit a week or two later, but the fact that it's a 320 might mean that one of the 319s will be replaced by another 320 in July for the peak summer, giving 4 x 320s and 7 x 319s.

The total seats available for all airlines for the week commencing 20 May is just over 173,000 according to Mayfly (including about 2,000 for the Airbus shuttle). It might be expected that this will rise a bit the following week with the eleventh aircraft operating a full week.

I make 173,000 the highest weekly number since August 2010. July and August this year should see the weekly total approaching 180,000. The best ever month, so far as I can discover, was August 2008 (the record-breaking year with over 6.2 mppa) when over 196,000 seats were available each week.

2 new routes announced today.

Marrakesh and Keflavik starting in December. Both flights are 2 weekly.

i wonder if that means they keep the 3 a320 all wnter long.last year they kept 3 till early january if my memory is working correct. if im wrong on that one then it must be my age .

According to the airport's press release (see below) these flights will use the A 319.

Checking last winter's Mayflys there appeared to be three A 320s until at least the middle of February, dropping to two in March, April and the first three weeks of May before returning to three.

[textarea]easyJet unveils new flights to Reykjavik and Marrakech

easyJet has today announced two new routes for Bristol Airport – with flights to Reykjavik and Marrakech launching in December 2013.

The new flights went on sale this morning at http://www.easyJet.com and will offer the South West’s only connection to Iceland. easyJet will operate the routes using 156 seater Airbus A319 and expects to carry over 55,000 passengers during the first 12 months.

Flights to Marrakech will start on 14 December 2013 and operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays with fares from £33.99*
Flights to Reykjavik will start on 12 December 2013 and operate on Thursdays and Sundays with fares from £31.99*

Ali Gayward, Commercial Manager for easyJet, said: “We are pleased to announce two new routes for Bristol Airport today offering exciting new holiday destinations for people across the South West. The new flights went on sale this morning and we expect to carry around 55,000 passengers in the first year thanks to the broad appeal of Iceland and Morocco.

“Reykjavik is fast becoming one of the most popular destinations for UK holidaymakers who are attracted to the fantastic scenery and natural beauty as well as the thriving bar and restaurant scene. Marrakech boasts luxury hotels, rich history and culture and excellent shopping opportunities with a flight time of just over four hours.”

Robert Sinclair, Chief Executive Officer at Bristol Airport, said:
“Today’s announcement adds two more exciting destinations to easyJet’s extensive route network from Bristol, which is the largest available at any UK airport outside London. It also brings two new countries within easy reach from Bristol Airport, taking the total number of nations served by direct flights to 32.”

easyJet is the largest airline operating from Bristol Airport with up to 11 aircraft permanently based at the site, 420 staff employed locally and 46 destinations served. The airline flies over three million passengers to and from the airport annually.

This will be the first regular Icelandic link from BRS. The country has the reputation of being a relatively expensive tourist destination. Perhaps the airline has in mind the large reservoir of comparatively well-off, mainly older people in the BRS catchment who have the time, means and wish to fly for leisure.

Marrakech will similarly attract a mainly leisure passenger. Ryanair operated the route between 2009 and 2011 with very decent loads for the most part, so presumably the yield was lacking leading to the withdrawal of the route. Thomson is also advertising a weekly flight to Marrakech next summer.

It's good to see some more easyJet routes. I think the last two were Copenhagen (reintroduced after several years absence) and Naples which competes with TOM in summer.

As for new routes, there is a post on another forum that suggests easyJet is interested in BRS-JER. I suspect that it would be summer only and possibly not daily. It would almost certainly scupper Blue Islands 2 x daily ATR 42 service and Flybe's several flights a week. Much as I like easyJet I'd hate to see the convenience of a 2 x daily service by someone else disappear.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
