Winter 15/16 now on sale. Having a look at February there appears to be some significant increases with edi going 5x daily on some days and Glasgow going 4 x daily too. Extra Funchal, salzburg and I think a marginal increase in Geneva too. Lanzarote , Porto,Gibraltar, and Isle of Man make their winter debuts too

It's very good news and part of easyJet's apparent commitment to operate more flights in winter (as they once did at BRS) instead of parking up aircraft during that period.

EDI will be 28 weekly and GLA 23 weekly next winter. The only minor niggle is that on some days the last flights from EDI arrive at BRS not much later than 2000 hours. There also seems (from timings) to be more rotations operated by EDI-based aircraft than previously.

Touch and Go/Reject landing/Go around

I was meeting someone at BRS today and arrived at the airport very early. I checked the arrival boards and out of interest looked at what else was due in over the next hour.

As I was very early I walked onto Felton Common to while away some time. I went to opposite the runway and was aware of a passenger aircraft landing on 09 at the far end of the field. I wasn't paying that much attention but am pretty sure it actually landed on the runway. I looked away but was then aware of the aircraft, which was an easyJet, taking off.

I followed it as it headed east. It seemed to level off then turned right into the circuit in the general direction of Weston-super-Mare. I then lost it to sight. A few minutes later an easyJet approached from the west and landed normally.

This was EZY 394 from Inverness that landed at 1508, 12 minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival time of 1520. The 'rejected' landing occurred at 1459. When I was at the arrivals board I noted that EZY 394 was estimating a 1500 arrival time, 20 minutes early, which is why I think it was EZY 394 that went around. I was directly under the Airbus when it went around so couldn't see any registration mark.

The incident appeared to attract no undue interest - no fire vehicles appeared for instance. I know that go arounds are not that uncommon (I've been on an aircraft myself when one occurred - an easyJet then as it happened) but are they often this close to the ground, even possibly touching the runway?

The Ezy A320 yesterday afternoon was indeed the inbound Inverness flight. It got to within a few feet of touchdown, but elected to go around due to the gusty easterly wind. It was then vectored for a second approach from which it landed normally 11 minutes later.

Many thanks for that NOSIGWX.

I'm very grateful for the explanation. Obviously no dramas and a routine result from highly trained and skilled professionals.

I booked some GLA and EDI flights at the weekend for later in the year. My attention was drawn to GLA which was sold out on all three northbound flights on Monday as well as one or two other sectors sold out on Tuesday.

I looked again just now and over the next three days there are 18 sectors between BRS and GLA, seven of which are already sold out. EDI has 22 sectors in the next three days and eight are already sold out.

So it seems that the additional rotations this winter are in response to growing demand.

Over the next three days all three CDG-BRS sectors are sold out as is tomorrow's BRS-CDG. This has been going on for a year or two. It will be interesting to see if the 2 x daily bmi regional to CDG that starts next week will have any impact.

I guess the rail option will be abysmal from the South West?

The frequency isn't bad - about every hour from Bristol Temple Meads to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, and more frequently than this with a change of train en route. The same train all the way takes around seven hours, sometime a bit longer. Changing en route can save an hour or two at times.

The trains that don't require a change take a long route via Birmingham, Derby, Sheffield, Leeds, York and Newcastle.

has any one any idea how the pax numbers are doing on the I O M route.

Only clue I have is the seat selector. I've been looking over the past couple of weeks and many flights were in the teens, twenties although there was a week or two to go before the service started. I looked yesterday and 30-40 seemed about it (with still the likelihood of more seats showing occupancy before the flights take off during the week). Tomorrow's flight to IOM is so far showing 75 seats taken.

It always seemed to me to be an odd route for a 156-seat aircraft. I don't know what sort of loads easyJet expected when it was set up - it's due to run right through the winter. easyJet haven't got many routes wrong at BRS down the years. I spoke to a BRS-based easyJet pilot a couple of weeks ago and he seemed quite content about the route's prospects.

In previous years the IOM route was the Belfast flight with stop over at IOM if i am not mistaken.

Jersey European, later becoming Flybe, did operate one of its four daily BHD services via the Isle of Man but that ended 13 years ago. When Flybe pulled out Eastern operated the route from 2004 until 2008 but then axed the route shortly after Manx2 began a multi daily and generally cheaper service from Gloucestershire Staverton Airport. Eastern's daily service was expensive and it's thought that it struggled to compete with Manx2's fares up the M5.

Flybe came back on the route in 2010 with a 3/4 x weekly service for the next four years (although it dropped the route for one year during that period) before pulling out again. Flybe was experiencing its severe financial problems at the time and subsequently restructured.

Eastern used 29-seater J 41s and Jersey European/Flybe the Dash 8-300 in the earlier days and later the Dash 8-400. So it can be seen that prior to easyJet the largest aircraft operating the route were 78-seat machines. Flybe typically averaged around 30-35 passengers per flight during its most recent tenure.

Looking at Monday 1 June and Monday 25 July the following is the first group of departures on those days:
0605 Palma A 320
0605 Catania A 319
0605 Malaga A 319
0635 Edinburgh A320
0640 Amsterdam A 320
0645 Murcia A 319
0700 Newcastle A 319
0700 Belfast Int A 319
0705 Faro A 319
0715 Glasgow A 319
0725 Toulouse A 320
0745 Dalaman A 320

This indicates five A 320s (same as summer 2014) and seven A 319s.

There will be at least 6 A320s based in Bristol for next summer, however easyJet when creating the flight just 'whack in' a seat plan for an A319, then change it accordingly later on after the flights have been released for general sale. So a busy summer for BRS next year!

The latest Mayfly is now published and shows five A 320s and seven A319s for next week. Is it planned to increase the A 320 complement later in the summer?

Is it true that EZY are planning to phase out their A319's?

Looking at Jethro's Fleet Listings that might be what eventually occurs. The airline has on order 23 320s and 100 320 neos with options for another 100 320 neos. From 2017 85 of the aircraft are replacements for existing aircraft.

If that is true, then I don't see a lot of point in EZY repainting A319's into the new scheme if they're going to be replaced? I can't fathom what goes on inside an airline.

Lots or reasons, could be that the aircraft is due a major check that requires the paint to be removed. But still has some years left on the lease.

New livery

I saw the new livery for the first time today. It was at BRS on an A 319 - I have no idea of the registration as I'm not a collector of such things.

My initial impression was that it made the 319 look stubby and foreshortened - even more so than it is actually.

[textarea]Welsh Rugby Union investigating complaint over Bristol Airport flight to Majorca

A rugby fan was ejected from a flight at Bristol Airport after complaints by passengers about his behaviour.

The man, who was wearing a Rhydyfelin RFC club top, was on an Easyjet plane bound for Majorca. His ejection from the aircraft resulted in an hour delay.[/textarea]

The flight was an easyJet service to Palma, and the man was removed at the request of the captain.

[textarea]Safety investigation launched over Easyjet's landing at Bristol Airport

The airline confirmed it had launched a safety investigation into a flight from Glasgow that landed in Bristol at around 10pm on Wednesday night.

The plane flew close to the top of Dundry hills on its approach before aborting its first landing attempt and performed a 'go-around' manoeuvre.

It was forced to climb back up to nearly 3,000 feet before it attempted a successful second landing.[/textarea]

This seems a bit unusual.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
