Very tense afternoon but glad we got the result, looks like there was a good crowd at Ashton Gate.

Congratulations! I was convinced it would be a draw - good job it wasn't.

That's why I don't bet on football matches. I'm no good at what is either a dark science or luck. I don't bet on anything actually which is probably sensible too given my abject 'skill' at football match predictions.

Ray, if I can remember correctly todays crowd was a record attendance for Bristol City. As for the result glad we escaped the drop.

Not a record attendance as such - 25,500. A record since the ground has been revamped - only fully revamped for this season, 27,000 seats. In recent years the limit was reduced to under 20,000.

Used to get over 40,000 for FA Cup ties when I was a lad (when the FA Cup was more important than the First Division) and also in the 1970s when Bristol City were in the First Division. In those days of course the majority of spectators stood which I still much prefer to do when watching football.

Sky Sports News suggested it was their biggest crowd for 37 years, I don't know if that is true?

Lets hope that the right managerial appointment is made and that it is made sooner rather than later so the rebuild can start.

Brilliant news was nervous all morning yesterday incredible to think all 3cteams in contention all won ! ...im sure if we would have had 5000 seats we would have sold them. Blues 27k crowd against Huddersfield only had about 1000 of their fans their so against a bigger club would have been closer to the 30k sell out.

Hope we can keep Harry .....

Possibly for 27/28 years. Pre all seating Bristol City played Nottm Forest in the second leg of the League Cup semi final in 1989 when all the standing terraces were still in place. Since then what with the move to all-seating and the gradual rundown of the ground (until the recent revamp) the capacity was reduced.

For years it was around 20,000 for football but two or three thousand more for rugby. Bristol RFC used to play occasional home Premiership matches at Ashton Gate when they were a force in the rugby world and against the likes of Bath attracted more spectators than Bristol City because of the reduced capacity for football. Ashton Gate is now Bristol RFC's home ground (the rugby club like the football club is owned by Steve Lansdown through his Bristol Sport set-up) but relegation back to the Championship means back to 6-8,000 home gates.

Getting back to the Birmingham Random Stuff, 'Arry has a good management/coaching team with Steve Cotterill a first-class act. I'm pleased he was given an excellent reception when he returned to Ashton Gate on Sunday. If 'Arry does stay with his assistants the Blues' fans ought to be looking to next season with a sense of renewed optimism.

The noises that I've heard today seem positive and 'Arry 'imself was on the radio talking about staying. That may well be down to the celebrations of staying up, so we'll see what happens once he sits down with the board.

For what it's worth,despite being a Villain,I am pleased BCFC stayed up.
One thing is certain for all our teams,there is a massive rebuilding job to be done.
A very disappointing season all round I think.Even WBA probably need to spend big just to finish close to where they are now,such is the nature of the Premier League.
Let's hope for much better for next season.

I don't think I have ever had a crush on a footballer,probably the closest I have got to that was worshipping the ground that Paul McGrath walked on.
On the other hand my Mum fancied Trevor Francis,Kevin Keegan and one for the older ones out there,the late great Emlyn Hughes.

I was talking to workmates the other night when the subject of gigs came up.Specifically free ones.Unfortunately I couldn't remember a gig I had been to where it was completely unpaid for.
Then later I remembered seeing a band practising on what is now the west car park of the NEC.
That band was Simply Red,sometime in the late 80's.A full size stage was set up for the band and word got round quite quickly.Although not a fan of the band it was very enjoyable.We got to hear a few hits and album tracks all for free,brilliant.
Has anyone else any stories of freebie shows or similar that they have been lucky enough to get to

Not quite freebies but in my younger days when I wasn't able to afford the ticket prices to see live bands, a friend and I would head to the NEC mid way through the support act. By that time the touts were desperate to offload any unsold tickets for whatever they could get, we managed to grab some real bargains.

Old mate from school worked on the doors at the NEC for a time and got us in to see level 42 and spandau ballet. Security must have been a bit lacking back then cos from what I remember having no allocated seats we just stood at the side

Just added a pair of widebodies to the collection. First off is the Qantas 747/200 which represents the first ever visit of a 747 to Birmingham in the summer of 1978. I remember well the feeling of horror and disbelief when the news came through concerning the Paris disaster in March 1974 which at the time was the worst accident in aviation in history.
