Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
In my 60 years of flying around the world I have always found airports to be very expensive for food and drink and LBA is no exception to this rule.
I was in a u.k. motorway services this weekend where a cup of tea was 2.55, on Jet2 24 hours before 2.60 and fuel was 20p a litre more expensive.
Where you have customers in an enviourment without competition, prices will be high

hi armadillomaster
depending on flight times we use wetherspoons in yeadon,2 breakfasts and 2 coffees each total well under £10.

I recall one year a butty van setting up stall very close to the airport. The airport management wasn't amused because all the staff were leaving the site to get food from there instead of paying the exorbitant prices in the terminal. The butty van was forced to move in the end.

I wonder why Greggs left LBA? It's always busy at MAN T1. It was probably taking too much business from other eateries at the airport as their prices were the same as in the high street.

If greggs were at the airport now they probably end up making a mint, especially if they did there bacon sarnie and coffee for £2 offer! Know I would use the facility for sure

As I recall, Gregg's was Gregg's and not a SSP franchise outlet. Their LBA prices were the same as their high street stores which meant they took an awful lot of business from the SSP outlets and whatever else was there at the time. Gregg's received requests (I don't know from whom) to raise their LBA prices. They quite rightly refused and so their tenancy was ended. This is my understanding anyways. If it's true, it smacks of protectionism.

That is exactly what I was told.

I notice that you can now cut though the new Saltaire extension and miss out the duty free shop completely, I guess this is not an intended path to the gate areas?

******* at lbia was closed due to horrific hygiene notice from a EHO visit. Told to close immediately it was that bad and they lost the contract

That is simply not true. There were no hygiene issues whatsoever.

Ummmm yes it was due to poor hygiene. I have been in catering for 20 years and have also worked at the airport. So I do know what I'm talking about. They closed instantly on the day of the visit!

If its correct that Greggs was closed due poor hygiene and not to due to other reasons that have been previously discussed on here before.
All I would ask is that if anyone has some real concrete proof as to why it Greggs was closed and kicked out, please feel free to post and share that info on here to back up your allegations?

I don't have proof but is the the reason for closure! The airport kicked them out!

OK. So the airport asked for prices to be increased? Where is the proof for this. Just a further accusation. Same thing!

Whatever the reason for the departure of Greggs I find it strange sometimes people slate the airport for trying to make money and on the flip side demand more investment in the facilities. They need to fund all the investment somehow and it is clear the airlines don't pay as much as they used to so they are reliant on the food, drink & retail side.

Now putting me moderator hat on!

Its not often we have do this, But guys let's all calm down for a minute and take a deep breath before this all gets out of control...
Both sides to the argument have very good reasons, but neither have no proof to back up the allegations...

This is a very friendly forum. Let's keep it that way shall we please..

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
