Have the various US lo-cost airlines been ruled out e.g. JetBlue, South West, Spirit etc? Mind you, I'm not sure if any have the equipment for TATL flights or if they could fly UK-Canada.

The other point that occurs is are these proposed services covered by Open Skies / do licences have to be applied for?
If so, has anything been filed?

JetBlue are getting the A320neolr but not till 2019. Southwest are getting the MAX and Spirit has the 320neo but I just don't see them doing TATL.
If I've interpreted many of Rays posts correctly then it sounds like an airline we know but wouldn't expect to do it. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if it was Blue Air as their LPL base has shown they don't mind trying something different.

Ok - least likely airlines to fly across the pond, new to BHX. I'm aware it has to be someone who doesn't already fly from Manchester, but I don't know who already flies from there anyway, so here goes;

Scilly Airbus
Wizz Air
Aeroflot
JAT
Eastern Airways.

Also, the flight going east is a scheduled daily service to Norwich.

A potential mixed reaction comes from the extremes of the Birmingham supporters, from the most positive down to the real negative. The positive folk may see a new airline with a good schedule (unless it's changed) having a real go and offer their support, the more negative may bemoan the lack of brand awareness, blah, blah, etc, etc and be on a downer from the start. There is also the inevitable 'mine is bigger than yours' that we usually see from elsewhere.

As I said before, Birmingham doesn't seem to be in a position where it has a huge choice over who flies where, they need to grasp every opportunity that comes along. I think this one will come as a surprise but I hope that people offer their full support as if this fails we may be left totally empty handed.

Hopefully not much longer now, it's going to be interesting :)

Must be in advanced stages if you're aware of flight times Ray. As for lack of brand awareness, I had pre conceived ideas of what for example LOT were like as an airline, but apparently they're very good, and have decent cabins, and a good safety record. I hope whoever we are going for, if it is someone left field, that the substance of the service is good.

Whoever it is, they will need an advertising budget comparable to that of Jet2 and Emirates.

Could it be an airline re-introducing an old brand name, like many companies often do? - British Caledonian anyone?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
