Here's an idea for you Ray.
When you get the job instead of more drop and go car parks introduce a pick up and go home car park.
I know there is already such a facility spread over a large area of laybys in the vicinity but maybe you could amalgamate them into one area. You could price it (reasonably) on there being more occupants in the car when
exiting than arriving.
ll happily drop off somebody but ask me to pick up somebody and i will find any excuse not to.
 
Hi there ray and all, the next Chief Executive at Birmingham Airport needs to take stock of which airlines currently serves Birmingham Airport, then see which areas are not served by Birmingham, then get the airports business plan and charges, then get a copy of Heathrows, Gatwicks, Manchester and Stansted buiness plans and charges, then compare it to what Birminghams is, then find out where Birmingham is seriously gap in business, then try to use to best plan to replicate the business at birmingham...Andyc.
 
An interview with COO David Winstanley.

Although I don't know too much about him, on the face of it I quite like Mr Winstanley. He does seem to be much more prominent of late, I wonder if he fancies the top job?

Anyway, the interview is mainly about the current ongoing investment and what to expect. There is a little bit of spin, about the parking for example but it sounds like they really are trying to squeeze as much as they can out of the current site.

The two things of note are that the airport are working on increasing frequencies on already popular routes, which routes they are is not made clear but it is mentioned alongside improvements for business flyers. He also confirms that as well as the new 4* Hilton Garden Inn the airport are in longer term discussions over a new 5* hotel.

Birmingham Airport has signed up to sponsor a bear this summer in the exciting Birmingham art trail called ‘The Big Sleuth’.
Presented by Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity in partnership with creative producers Wild in Art, ‘The Big Sleuth’ will see up to 100 beautifully designed bear statues appearing throughout Birmingham over a 10-week period this summer from July 10th with satellite trails in Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Sandwell and at Resorts World.

‘The Big Sleuth’ aims to inspire people to become a tourist in their own town. Bears will be placed not only in the city centre, but in a host of locations across all ten districts of Birmingham, encouraging residents to follow the trail and discover areas of the wider region which they may not have explored before.

he design chosen by the Airport is called ‘Solar Polar’ and is painted by artist David Graham. The design represents the famous Northern Lights or ‘the aurora borealis’. The bright dancing lights of the aurora are the result of collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere and can be seen in the sky.

‘Solar Polar’ will be centrally located at the city’s famous Victoria Square until September 17th, during this time a selfie competition will be run by the airport to encourage the public to find the bear.

David Winstanley, Chief Operating Officer at Birmingham Airport, said: “It’s a fantastic privilege to be involved with another city art trail project. The Big Hoot in 2015 attracted many visitors not only to the city and region but also to the airport.

“We jumped at the chance to be a sponsor again and we are really pleased with the bear design that we have chosen. It is very relevant for Birmingham Airport seeing as we have four Icelandair flights a week to Reykjavik, a gateway city for visitors of the Northern Lights.

“It’s a really exciting time for Birmingham and the Airport and this project is set to captivate the city, attracting thousands of new visitors to the region.”

Elinor Eustace, Deputy Director of Fundraising at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, said: “The Big Sleuth is incredibly important to us as we know it will encourage residents and tourists to get active and enjoy being outdoors – whether they decide to walk, jog, run or cycle the trail.

“We are absolutely delighted to have Birmingham Airport involved, as thanks to them and our other corporate partners we will ultimately be able to fund some important projects for the children and young people at our hospital and for that we’re immensely grateful.”

Charlie Langhorne, Director of Wild in Art, said: “It’s fantastic to have Birmingham Airport on board again this year. They recognise the great benefits of getting involved as well as the positives for the local community, and of course Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Together with other sponsors, partners and funders, they have enabled the event to really take off!”

The Big Sleuth comes hot on the heels of The Big Hoot which attracted more than 800,000 visitors and in total raised over £625,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

At the end of the 10 week trail the giant painted bears will be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the hospital.

First of our new appointments

Birmingham Airport has named its new chairman as the former CEO of Birmingham-based pubco Mitchells & Butlers. Tim Clarke succeeds outgoing chairman John Hudson when the latter steps down on July 12 after 20 years in post. Mr Clarke’s first job will be the small task of finding a new CEO for the airport following Paul Kehoe’s decision to leave the role. Mr Kehoe also leaves his position on July 12 after nine years in the hot seat.

Whether it's because he is leaving and in 'don't give a f**k mode', but he went next level savage on a Twitter complainant. Guy deserved it but this was funny! Quotes below are direct copy and paste of PK's tweets.

Just a few thoughts and comments on passing through BHX last week – although you could have forgiven for thinking you were in Bucharest with the two Blue Air 737’s lined up next to each other.

Firstly I have to say that I had no issue whatsoever passing through security but I realise that 11:00 is a quieter time, the morning rush is over and the afternoon wave of flights yet to begin. Infact on arrival the main departure lounge was almost deserted but it soon filled up and after an hour or so the place was absolutely heaving. I do share similar opinions that the area outside Frankie & Bennies before security is a wasted space and should be developed into extending the departure lounge.

Unfortunately for me Thomas Cook were having a bad day – I know the Kos flight is operated by the same aircraft that does the Zante run in the morning so when a quick check showed it had departed BHX three hours late for Zante I knew we were in for a delay. Other Thomas Cook and Thomson flights were also facing some big delays – a flight from Rhodes was running over 12 hours late so I guess you have to pick your battles.

The annoying thing was the departure boards still showed the flight boarding on time, then later showed a delay of an hour before slowly creeping up to reflect the true delayed departure time. There was one announcement made about the delay which came about two hours after the flight should have initially departed. As you can imagine there were a few people complaining and making remarks around the departure screens.

Once the plane finally arrived (The Egypt livery which I think might be my first special livery flight) boarding starting quite quickly but as we were attached to an airbridge it took a while to get everyone on. Then the fun really started – we sat on the plane for almost two hours going nowhere. The plane hadn’t been serviced as the handlers were busy dealing with all the other flights that had arrived on time. The captain made an announcement, noting and I quote ‘Birmingham is woefully understaffed these days’. Once the bags were finally loaded they discovered that they had one to many and all had to be taken off again to find the offending suitcase.

As you can imagine there were a few grumpy people but in the most part everyone seemed to take it in their stride; the cabin crew made good jokes about it and came round offering glasses of water for everyone and I had a lovely view of the Air India Dreamliner which kindly parked next to us - it could do with a wash though!

Once we finally got underway we were all given a complimentary drink from the bar which I thought was a good gesture as the faults seemed to lie with ATC and the ground handling staff rather than with Thomas Cook. So we basically left just shy of 5 hours late and while these things do happen the issues on the ground at BHX are really unacceptable; you can’t be claiming you can serve 18 million passengers when it is evidently clear that the infrastructure is already cracking under the pressure.

The return journey was much less eventful, touched down at BHX slightly ahead of schedule and was out the terminal within 45 minutes. Parked on a remote stand and bussed to the terminal, long que at immigration snaking all the way round. Passengers from Monarch and Jet2 were also joining but it did seem to move fast; all the e-gates were working and there were three officers on the desk.

The baggage belt started moving soon as we got to it and our bags were one of the first ones off so quite lucky in that respect. All in all my experience probably mirrors what others have said, sometimes it’s just luck of the drawer.

Some other points – despite what I’ve read in the past I though the airport was spotlessly clean although the windows could do with a good clean on the outside.

As I’ve mentioned the airport was busy – lots of people boarding the Jet2 which was good to see. Also the que for the Vueling flight to Paris-Orly seemed to go on forever so judging by that if the service does get dropped it’s not because of low passenger numbers. There also seemed an endless stream coming off the CSA flight from Prague. The Doha line also looked healthy as did Monarch’s new flight to Split. Only Porto looked a little quiet from what I could see. Finally got to see the new C-Series and Superjet in the flesh - one looks lovely, the other looks hideous - I'll let you work out which one's which.

I won't bump the KLM thread as it's not really about them but I like this comment.

Mr Jones commented: “When travelling, particularly for business, convenience and comfort are key. Both KLM and Air France offer convenient schedules from my local airport in Birmingham which means I don’t have the hassle of having to travel to and from London. I’d much rather spend an hour or two working from the comfort of the lounge in transit rather than stuck in traffic on the M40.”

Indeed User. A bit of education is required when the new CEO is recruited.

Another gripe, in the new Chairman's first PR comments, he states that his first job is to recruit a new CEO!
That speaks to me that Paul Kehoe left unexpectedly. When a CEO announces that he's going, it is normally kept "under the table" until a replacement is found.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
