In all fairness on the majority of flights im on i will stand up once the aircraft is on stand (no pun intended) and more than likely bump my head on the overhead lockers, as i did on all three flights recently :| but only to stretch my legs, i dont get involved with the 'scrum' in the aisle. But as others have already said the complaints start from touchdown really if not earlier...

I'm not really that bothered but like Callum I like to stand up and stretch my legs and back but it's no big deal really however I have to say that over the years delays in my experience on disembarking ie steps/air bridge /bus are usually worse in the UK which unfortunately for me normally means BHX although one particular experience at LHR took the biscuit.

However it's not the end or the world but can be frustrating.

When airlines board aircraft, they often do so by rows. I wonder how long it will be before some more formal procedure appears for disembarking aircraft.
Maybe if the Captain always had to make an announcement that passengers must remain seated until otherwise instructed by the cabin crew and then they could organize an orderly disembarkation. After all the Captains authority is sacrosanct for the rest of the flight and doesn't end 50 meters from stand.
Ryanair could then structure their fares based on how far you are seated from an exit:)

Please, do not give Ryanair even more ideas about how they can get more money out of us......

But while we are having a gripe about passengers rising from their seats as soon as the plane comes to a halt, can i have a gripe of my own, people who get up and take things out and put things back into their bags in the overhead lockers - not once, not twice but sometimes as many as three or four times on a shortish flight. And sometimes they even get up before the plane has left.....

Anyone know if BHX has any kind of CEO at the moment? They and Liverpool both lost their chiefs months ago and everything seems to have gone quiet.

No sign of a replacement for PK, which I find strange as he would of handed his notice in around Jan 17

Mmmmmmmmmmm whats going on here then , it makes me a little nervous.
It reminds me of these talented people who refuse to come to Birmingham city council becouse its got such a bad name nationally.
Im not saying BHX has got a really bad name but if you read social media, you would think it has.

I must admit I thought the Liverpool guy would be coming here, but maybe their near-simultaneous moves really was just coincidence.

The Bristol ceo handed in his notice at the same time as well and has moved to London City but no replacement has been named yet as far as im aware , it all seems very coincidental

Keen Twitter users travelling to and from Birmingham Airport can now receive real time flight updates to their account thanks to a new service called ‘FlightSmart’, launched today (Tuesday 26th) .
Using the @FlyBHX handle, the new free service allows Tweeters to sign up to receive regular updates on their flight - from when the check-in opens to flight departure, plus immediate notifications of any cancellations or delays.
David Winstanley, the Airport’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “Customer Service is at the heart of everything we do, alongside safety and security, so we’re proud to be able to offer our customers this new innovative service that gives them the information they want in the way they want to receive it.

“FlightSmart allows passengers to enjoy their time at the airport, making the most of the facilities, rather than constantly looking at the flight screens. It will also allow friends and loved ones to track flight statuses and we hope to be able to roll the service out through other social media channels in the very near future.”

Travellers will be able to sign up via the airport's website or personal Twitter account. In addition to receiving flight information, other messages will be issued by the airport highlighting important information and commercial offers.

The service is offered by award winning Cork based technology company, TIC, and is only currently available in two other smaller UK airports as well as airports in the USA, Australia and the Middle East.

Founder and CEO, Paul Brugger, said: "Birmingham Airport is very special to me as it was my local airport prior to moving to Cork. It's an airport I've used numerous times and one I know well as a passenger. I'm delighted Birmingham, our 3rd and largest UK airport customer, has chosen BizTweet to provide passengers with real time personalised information direct to their mobile devices by social media".

So,

World Routes came and went, sadly without those cryptic snippets often Tweeted by Mr Kehoe we won't know how well they did, or didn't.

August saw the thirtieth (?) consecutive month of growth with BHX being the only major airport to see double digit increases. Nothing at all mentioned by the airport!

September saw passengers numbers break the 13 mppa barrier, a huge achievement when you think it wasn't that long ago that we passed 12 million. Again, nothing mentioned by the airport!

On the last two points, I realise that the Monarch situation is likely to come to a head any day now and with other airlines cutting there must be a few focused minds but if Mr Winstanley can find time to talk about Tweeting flight numbers there must surely be scope for a press release about the incredible passenger figures? Are the airport just fed up with the snide comments about growing too quickly and have decided not to bother?

Coming up to three months now since Mr Kehoe stepped down, if it's correct that he worked 6 months notice we're talking nine months and still not even a murmur?

Ray, was thinking on the same line. Since Paul Kehoe has departed it feels the whole place has become stagnant. Reaching 13 million is a huge achievement and feel rather disappointed in lack of coverage.

Has BHX got a publicly-announced acting CEO?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
