I'm not trying to pour cold water but is the A350 so very different from the B787? Genuine question.

This is what I was thinking myself. I haven't flown the A350 yet, but I know the A350 has wider seats than the 787 (about 1 inch). Apart from that, I can't think of any massive differences your average tom, dick and harry will see. They both have the up to date cabin humidity technology that is supposed to stop jet lag. The A350 also doesn't have the dimming windows the 787 has.

To be honest, In my honest opinion, I think it may be better to operate the inagural with the 787 to prevent any confusion.

If they really wanted to stop the show, perhaps the WAG could of talked them into using the A380. But Qatar have so few they probably wouldn't have the slack in their fleet someone like Emirates would.

The 787-8 is comparable to an a330-200 as where the the a350-900 is comparable to a 777-200 and the a350-1000 is comparable to a 777-300

Thank you for that. I'm asking in the Qatar Airways general forum about types currently operating to the UK and any confirmed or possible changes to current types in the future.

I'd of thought so as it wouldn't be full (200 pax onboard maybe). I believe glasgows runway is about 200m longer than CWL's and the A380 has landed to/from Dubai in the past.

When the A380 turned up at CWL on one of the forums said that was the only chance of seeing one at CWL. The plane was too big and heavy to be operational from the airport. The runway was too short and taxi ways widened and strengthened like wise with the apron.With that in mind that is why BA are doing maintainence at LHR.

Heavy maintenance for the A380 that would be done at CWL for the 777/747 is actually done in Manila and Singapore. It was apparently cheaper to do it that way than set up the LHR hangers and/or Cardiff.

I think the A380 would be ok for 1 offs at CWL as proven.

Cardiff Airport is not designed for an A380 and I believe that a A380 may be able to land with passengers but wouldn't be able to take off.

Several unconfirmed reasons have been given for this and one of them was due to width of the runway where the wing would overhang the grass possibly causing risk to ingesting F.O.D.

Another reason is the taxiway Alpha/Bravo where the A380 wing would overhang the roadway which would mean no traffic could move between stand 8 and Stand 12 while an A380 taxied along the Alpha/Bravo taxiway.

On twitter I did see a picture of a massive billboard somewhere in Bristol. At least the message is being spread across the southwest now.

The good news is it is probably the biggest hoarding in Bristol but the bad news is it situated in the Temple Gate area where the local authority are about 6 or 7 months into the biggest traffic project for a generation and most people avoid it like the plague! It is total mayhem for most parts of the day and is not due to be finished for another 12 months.

Interesting comparing the A350 with the Boeing 787. In reality the A350 can be very much different from the A350 depending on the series. Similar can be said with the variants of the 787.

I saw this advertisement today. It's on the side of a derelict hotel which has been covered in fabric. It's a very striking advert at Temple Gate which is a multi-lane dual carriageway, one of the major ingress and egress routes from south Bristol. The Bristol-Bath corridor runs along it as well as many bus routes to that part of south Bristol and to Bath and the Mendips (Wells/Glastonbury/Street).

Red Flyer is correct in that the entire area is undergoing a major road reconstructuring but it is still heavily used by commuters and others.

However, by far the main plus point is the fact that the advert is situated no more than 100 metres from the bottom of Temple Meads station approach road and the A1 Bristol Airport Flyer buses drive right past it both to and from the airport, as does nearly everyone else on their way to and from the station. The current road works mean that the road, invariably traffic logged, is even more congested with the result that vehicles are frequently stationary next to the advert.

My opinion is that if Qatar only wanted one location in Bristol to site such an advert they would struggle to find a potentially more effective one in the city. I've criticised the lack of serious street advertising for this service in the past but the airline has come up trumps with this. I'm still surprised they haven't used city buses to publicise the service. Perhaps they will.

With the Cardiff route being advertised in Sydney by Qatar Airways the Welsh team is also competing in the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast which Ken Skates is attending, so that should be good exposure for Wales in an important market for the Doha route.
