I'm not trying to pour cold water but is the A350 so very different from the B787? Genuine question.
This is what I was thinking myself. I haven't flown the A350 yet, but I know the A350 has wider seats than the 787 (about 1 inch). Apart from that, I can't think of any massive differences your average tom, dick and harry will see. They both have the up to date cabin humidity technology that is supposed to stop jet lag. The A350 also doesn't have the dimming windows the 787 has.
To be honest, In my honest opinion, I think it may be better to operate the inagural with the 787 to prevent any confusion.
If they really wanted to stop the show, perhaps the WAG could of talked them into using the A380. But Qatar have so few they probably wouldn't have the slack in their fleet someone like Emirates would.
