Birminum

And then you have the ozzies and the yanks who call it BirmingHAM, they make a big thing for the HAM, obviously the latter having a BirmingHAM themselves, lol

Thats why im Brum all the way, you really cant go wrong. :)

Some people in the Mild Mild West call your fair city Birningam.

I watched the handover ceremony on BBCi player and have to say I was very disappointed by the video. It's as if an advertising agent who knows nothing of the city was employed to produce it. Almost like you can see their thought process - 'Hmm, what have I heard of from Birmingham? Oh yeah! Spaghetti junction (more correctly - 'Gravelly Hill Interchange'), Peaky Blinders and lets find some local rap artist', even if they can't say the name of the city correctly.
I don't have any problem with how people from outside of the West Midlands pronounce the name of the city-

This is down to those accents and dialects. But when a supposed local get it wrong - aaaggghhh!
I did however love the 'Mr Blue Sky' performance (thank God it wasn't chucking it down - that wouldn't have worked!). It showed the wonderful architecture of Victoria Square. But, that architecture isn't limited to Victoria Square. It's seen through the city centre and beyond.

I hope that any future presentations focus more closely on promoting Birmingham's (and the West Midland's) rich and diverse culture. This incorporates everything from world class art galleries, museums and sporting facilities, a vibrant restaurant scene (including many Michelin Starred restaurants), delightful parks, wonderful shopping facilities and best of all, the people - the list goes on!
Why the video failed to highlight the above, I have no idea.

Regards

Kevin

Good points Kevin.

I think the theme for Brum22 is very much going to focus on the real city with a real history. Why gloss over it? Look at how an** London 2012 looked (and still does)? Who remembers what Manchester was like In 2002 or Glasgow for that matter? Gold Coast was nothing but sun and surf that was a bit of the same each day. Frankly bland. Where is the real city?

In many ways showing us a video of the grit, industry and real people is what Brum is. Sure great things are happening, but the city wears its heart on its sleeves and that is what it wants to sell.

The Welcome to the Human Race banner on the Town Hall summed it up for me. Fair enough it is an ELO lyric but as it did when the G8 was held there in 1998, Brum will show us the everyday Brummie that captured the world leaders with their impromptu walkabouts and pints on the terrace.

The city is young exciting and it's time has come. Cometh the hour we will showcase just how great we are, against the backdrop of a great looking city landscape...and Leamington!

As the City Mayor at Gold Coast said when investors look at the UK they will plum for the city that has the Games coming. Cannot wait.

This is nothing to do with BHX so im posting it on the random bit, is it worth me posting some of my gliding photos of my media? i did some aerial photography hanging my DSLR out of the perspex canopy of an ASK21 and would love to post it but i feel like it isnt relevant as it isnt an airport as such

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
