Some of this for me tonight - Spirit Of Yorkshire, a maturing malt from Yorkshire's only distillery. Next year will see the launch of their first Single Malt. I'm looking forward to that one! #spiritofYorkshire

If you ever get a chance to go to their distillery you can sample some pre diluted stuff at about 70%, it's got a kick.

Just back from a trip to Ireland which included a visit to Bushmills Distillery. Tasted the 12 Years Old Distillery Reserve (only available at Bushmills itself) and Bushmills Red. Both extremely smooth and and delightful on the palate. I like whiskey as well as whisky although I don't profess to be knowledgeable. I know what I like and what I don't like which might not always correspond with the views of 'experts'.

I like a good cider I'll have to look out for that one.

Have a good break!

You need to have it in the frosted glass to appreciate it properly!

To think this was only four weeks ago, it feels like a lifetime

That's one I'd be very interested in trying (y)

I don't believe in wine or whisky experts. Everyone has a different pallet.

As Mrs F found out during a wine tasting tour of the Hunter Valley.

Whilst sat with lunch and a selection of wines to sample Mrs F (in an attempt to sound sophisticated) asked our host something about 'their correct procedure for tasting wines?' The reply, in a thick Aussie accent was along the lines of 'take a sip and if you like it, swallow. This ain't f@#cking France ya know!"

She wasn't impressed with the tears of laughter rolling down my face :)

And tonight's cider is from Devon.

My wife is a fan of Thatchers Gold when it comes to cider. They are based about five miles from Bristol Airport. Somerset is a county big on cider of course.

Yep i've loaded from there a few times and sampled there cider which is very nice! Another one i like is Henry Westons which is made in Herefordshire.

Herefordshire is another county with a great cider tradition, with Bulmers coming to mind amongst others.

Yes, Westons is a fine cider made in Much Marcle. But there are now a lot of artisan cider makers in the county producing perhaps the best ciders ever to grace a dining table.

I now live just outside Leominster and there are three excellent producers within a radius of about five miles of my home. On an evening like tonight i just go and sit in my barn with a bottle and slowly watch the sun go down. Heaven, sheer heaven....

While mentioning Bulmers i used to have close links with the company while working as a journalist and for me the finest cider they ever produced was one called King's Acre, a single variety cider made exclusively with Kingston Black apples, a variety reckoned by experts to produce the finest cider - and i can vouch for that.

Sadly, because it was not a volume cider, i don't thin they make it any more.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
