Not exactly a spectacular month but it is the first year of ops though no doubt both Qatar and the airport will have expected to do better. I know next year is a while away but it'll interesting to see if and by how much the route grows month on month next year.
One thing is apparent though is that despite many peoples fears KLM don't seem effected and AMS keeps on growing!

I did hear on the train this morning someone suggesting to go to the upcoming rugby world cup via Doha.

CAA Stats October 2018
140,086 passengers used the airport in October up 4.3% on 2017. The rolling year was 1,566,230 passengers up 7.9% on 2017.
Atms were 1547 up 1.9%.
The management's forecast of double-digit growth this year might have been a touch optimistic. November and December will need to produce some spectacular results if 10% is to be achieved in 2018. Anything around 8%, the current growth level over the past 12 months, would still be a very decent performace.

I would imagine that their prediction was based on Qatar Airways doing better in May June and October than it has done now. But still if they can get 8% that will still be good growth.

Yes it would, but as recently as 24 October the airport's CEO was still making this statement in the news section of the airport website.

With strong monthly results such as September’s 7% increase and 8% passenger growth for the rolling 12 months, we are well on track to deliver the double digit growth projected at the beginning of the year.

Well hopefully the CEO's prediction happens!

It could still be done but as I said earlier it would need some spectacular results in the last two months of the calendar year.

Well Alicante with Vueling will be 3 weekly and there will be Qatar Airways to give the airport a boost and KLM has also been growing well but the Flybe operation may well be down a bit so it'll be interesting to see if it happens.

Qatar seems the the potential main growth source and with the Holiday Season approaching December in particular might take the airport's annual passenger figures close to double-digit growth.

I was speaking to our driver into MEL on our journey to that airport coming home and he spoke well of Qatar's reputation at MEL. When we departed MEL at 2230 earlier this week with Emirates to Dubai there was an Etihad service to Abu Dhabi and a Qatar to Doha scheduled to leave at the same time.

He may have meant that double digit growth in one month, not the whole year, would be achieved.

Both the airport company chairman and the airport CEO have been predicting double digit growth for the whole of the calendar year of 2018 and October's statement was a confirmation that they still see it as a realistic target. If they don't quite reach that by the end of the year they will still have enjoyed a very successful twelve months.

Incidentally, the CWL CEO is a member of the distaff side of the airport family. She is Deb Barber, a former RAF group captain who specialised in air traffic control whilst serving in the air force and who, I believe, was in charge of the entire air traffic management unit of the RAF at the time she retired from military service.

Summer 2018
Now that summer 2018 is over and October stats are in i thought i'd have a look at how many passengers each airline have carried through CWL in the summer. Due to overlap on routes though i had to combine TUI, TCX and Balkan and Flybe and Ryanair together and Flybe/Ryanair is missing Octobers BHD numbers so i'll adjust that when i can. Also note these figures don't include one off charters, they are for the regular airlines that operate into CWL and base at the airport.

Should the airport be a bit disappointed by these figures? That firstly they didn't get over the 1.6 million mark and secondly that they didn't get the double digit growth that they were targeting.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
