Lots of talk on dried plum for flybe going under. If it does go under I feel sorry for staff as they had a rough time for months.

The latest report in the local paper.

Whether the government will be more receptive to helping Flybe than it was with the Thomas Cook situation remains to be seen. The difference might be that whereas Thomas Cook was seen primarily as a holiday airline Flybe operates domestic routes some of which link far-flung communities.

Flybe are a more strategically important airline than Thomas Cook especially for many of the UK regions. Also can the government politically afford to let another airline go bust?
For Cardiff they are an important airline with them operating 9 of 17 departures today plus their franchise partner Eastern operating an extra 3 as well but their departure wouldn't close it down and I'd have thought eventually other airlines would fill the gaps left by them.
Fingers crossed that some sort of deal is done and they survive!

If Flybe disappear, the only hope for CWL is Loganair.
I think it's likely that Loganair would takeover many of their Edinburgh routes Cardiff included and I'd expect them to open a base at Belfast city as well and cover Cardiff as well.
The other routes I'd be surprised if they touched them. Cork and Jersey I don't know who would be contenders for them.
Dublin and Paris could potentially be more trickier to reattract as especially with Dublin the airlines most likely to operate them might want to just add flights to Bristol or in the case of Paris add Bristol to their network. I'm talking about Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Air France.

I don’t think there’s much more for CWL if Flybe go under. Amazing we’d have a flight to Doha but not Paris or Edinburgh.

could we get Aer Lingus regional back for dublin perhaps?

It would set a precedent for other airlines financially cash strapped but the government could say its by a case by case basis and site exceptional conditions?

I'd be surprised if Loganair didn't jump on Edinburgh and eventually Belfast. Dublin might be more tricky in persuading either Ryanair or Aer Lingus back on it. Paris Jersey and Cork would be the hardest ones to regain imo. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

When it suits them politicians will argue that the Earth is flat so anything is possible.

Once again a difficult time and what will be a difficult night/few days for all at BE. Whatever happens, all the best to such a wonderful gang of employees. Having worked to get BE at various airports throughout my career this is a tough one to stomach.

Never one for speculation but there’s definitely more to this than meets the eye. Some highly-paid executives hatcheting a plan somewhere in all of this, just doesn’t feel right amid all the conjecture from the new ownership group a mere 12 months or so ago.

If the worst were to happen (I don’t think it will ... But i don’t think the UK Government will give in either), then this leaves the UK aviation scene at a crossroads. But one that the environmentalists amongst us will serenade. By some way or function an airline like BE simply needs to exist to serve these niche markets (CWL being one, and there are many, many examples throughout the UK that rely on these services for business and economic growth, not to mention jobs in the first place) !

Sky now reporting that the basis of a deal has been thrashed out but it is by no means certain it will go through.

It would allow Flybe to defer payment of £106 million in APD until 2023 on the condition that its three shareholders inject tens of millions of pounds of fresh equity into the company.

A major consideration appears to be a government judgement as to how likely it is that Flybe will be able to pay the APD in due course. If the airline is saved now but fails in the next year or two that could mean £100 million of tax payers' money blown on a private company.

But if it goes bust now the government loses over 100 million in APD for certain. This way they might get it back in the future.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
