Hi All, hope you are all well. I've been keeping track of how many Departures we are currently having on a daily basis. Does anyone know where there would be any figures to show how many weekly or monthly movements there were last year to do a comparison? Many thanks.

But why do you want to do a comparison ? We know things are grim out there and that certainly isn't going to help, in fact even comparing today with monthly movements in April 1986 is also going to look pretty poor don't you think ? :inpain:

Thanks Ian - interesting to see that neither Gatwick or Liverpool have published figures. I'll be producing my figures later this evening.

And no Bristol ?
Bristol is late nearly every month - invariably amongst the last airports to be published, usually several weeks behind the first batch.

As a result BRS rarely features in the 'league table 'Airports Satistics Summary' because that table disappears each month as soon as the final airports are published. Consequently, it's necessary to refer to table 09 to establish BRS monthly passenger figures and also to work out the rolling 12-month total from that.

Yet again Birmingham always behind and playing catch up, not heard anything from Mr Barton, has he gone into lock down as well, not wanting to give anyone any updates at what is going on at the moment at the airport, just left to members on this forum, and what fantastic work you do, can on.. Well you wouldn't expect BHX to suddenly be in front would you Andrew ? We are talking about LGW/LTN/STN and EDI which as Coathanger16 has mentioned were already larger airports than BHX ?

Andy we've been over this before - the length of an airports runway has nothing to do with how busy it is or should be!

Zhukovsky Airport in Russia has the longest commercial runway in the world at just under 5.5km (vs 3km at BHX and 2.2km at LTN), yet only handles just over 1 million passengers a year.

Closer to home, London City has one of the shortest commercial runways in the UK - just 1.5km - yet is busier than airports with longer runways - LPL, EMA, LBA, ABZ, BHD, etc. Should they all be embarrassed that an airport with a short runway handles more passengers than they do? Of course not!

The only instance that BHX having a longer runway than LTN becomes a factor is in handling long haul flights which, to be honest, LTN seems to be coping perfectly fine without!

So, how come Luton Airport has suddenly become larger than Birmingham Airport, when its runaway is less than Birminghams
Airlines don't choose destinations by runway length, but rather passenger demand.
And Luton Airport hasn't suddenly become larger than Birmingham Airport, it's been busier for decades.

Kevin

Given its close proximity to Heathrow and Manchester (for long haul) and Luton, Bristol and Manchester (each with large EZY bases), the airports done fairly well all things considered.

There weren't many airports in Europe, or even globally, that handled 2 A380 flights a day!

From those listed all but two were larger than BHX pre-Covid. Norwich is still handling less pax than BHX, and the only reason Scatsta is handling more is that it serves the Shetland ISLANDS where air travel is the main connection to the mainland!
Just to add to the above, the reason Norwich is so close behind us is that it has continued to serve helicopters to the North Sea oil rigs, which are counted in their passenger stats.

If I had to guess I would say almost all STN pax will hve been to/from Dublin. LTN is higher than STN overall as Wizz Air have kept more flights going than Ryanair.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
