Yes Pianokeys you are correct re MAN. sometimes they are seen as a frightener but in this case they have done their homework

Great to see Ryanair expanding at BHX and more importantly a deal being negotiated which hopefully will see continued growth.
Also, good to hear Nick Barton saying BHX could well be at pre-covid levels in 2023 (previously quoting 2024)
Economy aside, there should be some interesting developments announced soon for 2023 which should drive the numbers higher.

What's going on with Spicejet Ian, I noticed on Twitter they have started some european routes from Amritsar using the Max ?

Is BHX a possibility ?

Stops in Tbilisi, Georgia in both directions by the looks of things.

I'd rather stick with a direct/non-stop service from Air India and/or Hans Airways tbh.

Not sure at the moment about BHX but yes they have announced Rome and Milan recently so hopefully BHX is still on their radar.
There has been a flight showing on BHX arrivals recently but it is believed to be just a one off 738 going back to the leasing company and not a slot request.

Would a certain Icelandic airline be one of those possible developments? There's a lot of talk about them on the LBA forum and also mention of them at MAN. Hard to believe that they would not be interested in a market the size of the West Midlands.

I would like to think so, they have announced new German routes today, so hopefully any new UK route announcements can't be far away.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday said the state government will request the Centre to start an air service between Mumbai and Birmingham. A statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said a delegation led by the Mayor of West Midlands, Andy Street, visited the chief minister at his official residence 'Varsha' in Mumbai.

It was decided at the meeting with the delegation to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for investment and cooperation between the two states

Besides what's already been mentioned, another few interesting finds from the Initial Slot Coordination (with the usual caveat of slot requests don't always translate into actual flights, doesn't happen till the wheels touch the runway, etc etc)

- Eurowings 4x weekly to BER
- Flybe 12x weekly to ORY
- PLAY daily to KEF

Also, does anyone know who Originair are? They've requested 14 slots per week (double daily) but the only airline I can find with that name are based in New Zealand, and only operate domestically with Jetstream aircraft.

Hi Ian,

'Some interesting developments for 2023' - have these now been discussed eg slot applications or did you have something else in mind?

No idea who Originair are, but the slots indicate a daily service of 180 seats per flight, so an Airbus A320? - maybe the airline involved, is trying to keep the slots quiet, and using an alias instead?

Emirates seat figures seem to indicate the A380 on all flights, & only airline not showing is Austrian Airlines to Vienna, so looks likes like they don't have any plans to return.

My money is on Pegasus for the daily A320 - could be wrong.
