I agree Karl Ryanair and EasyJet both have had large bases at MAN and in a way Belfast for example for years so no reason BHX couldn't co-exist in a similar way unless of course one or the other really goes for it.

I maybe totally wrong but I reckon Mr Barton is enough of a savey businessman to have given them similar terms in the long term interest of BHX.

I find it funny that people here see competition between Ryanair and easyJet as a bad thing. As posted on the easyJet forum, without the competition, BHX will continue to be the most expensive of the airports in the area and continue to lose market share. Competition is fundamental in order to lower fares, attract passengers and regain market share. If you want BHX to grow and attract new routes, you NEED to want competition.

Competition -> Lower Fares -> Increase in Market Share -> Increase in Passenger Number -> Attracts more Airlines and Routes -> Circle Complete

I know many people have a romanticised visions that a new airline comes in an starts serving previously unserved routes. As a rule, unless there is a specific market in mind, this is not the. It is unserved because there is no profitable market for that route. You create those markets through increase market share and attracting a critical mass as the circle above demonstrates.

We need competition, and we need a healthy battle.... that is how we grow!

The problem seems to be that UA and AA see more money currently in outbound tourist flights than in feeding UK regional passengers into their hubs. Until the pound strengthens, I fear that the only hope for UK regional airport US flights lies with UK based airlines.
Unfortunately the pound has dropped back further.Got back up to $1.33 few weeks back.Sliding since ,and back down to $1.25 today.

GBP has been fluctuating between 1.28 and 1.25 for some time now

Biman Bangladesh have shortlisted 9 possible stopovers for flights to the US.
Birmingham is listed alongside MAN in the UK
Whether they’d be fifth freedom I have no idea but watch this space

Routing would be DAC-BHX-JFK one presumes, one notes their planned DAC-MAN-YYZ is not a fifth freedom but they may apply for the rights in due course

BHX inclusion is a surprise when it was announced by the airline some weeks ago they would be using Manchester ??

Has something changed since then ?

They went onto say they are not 5th freedom flts but refueling stops.

Manchester was the preferred choice for the JFK flights until some point - although I believe the shortlist of 9 was always there, now the preferred choice is Izmir although this will probably change again

You may be getting confused with the YYZ stopover which is expected to go to MAN

Birmingham or..Izmir. not the 1st place you would expect .how odd ! 😲

Be interesting to see if that works out one that has always stood out to me however is Singapore between Singapore, Manchester and Houston not even JFK. Ethiopian are interesting to I swear I remember at one point them doing Addis Adaba to Dublin to JFK Flights found it weird.

Singapore have a direct SIN - JFK & EWR service and also run a SIN-FRA-JFK route so they have the NYC well covered without needing another route via MAN.

Ethiopian are interesting to I swear I remember at one point them doing Addis Adaba to Dublin to JFK Flights found it weird.

All of Ethiopian's flights from Addis Ababa to New York, Chicago and Washington make a fuel stop in Dublin. The airline doesn't have rights to transport passengers from Dublin to the USA, and the return flights to Addis Ababa go direct without the fuel stop.

Anyway, back to BHX route developments...

I haven’t heard anything personally on AI@BHX (but do not take this for confirmation of anything, I only hear of the odd rumour or two) but one does presume there will be expansion including Mumbai. Those new aircraft gotta fly somewhere!

I guarantee you the new aircraft have no plane to BHX.

How we calculating all these slots released today by ACL
I'm not too sure what you mean but, as Ray said, they hold 3 weekly (308 slots=daily, 44=1 weekly etc). That's all I know but it would be either PEK or PVG, unsure if Hainan still hold the rights to PEK-BHX.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
